Hi all , I hope someone can help me , I have been trying so hard to pass the driving test , my arm was sore to start but as more more driving lessons went on it eased , now just when I have passed as I am getting out more (love it ) my arm is killing me I think it is from holding my arm in the air as I use the push and pull leaver so was looking if someone had any ideas what I could use as an arm rest while using this Adaptation

Hello Mike, it's nice to hear from you. I was so pleased for you when you passed your test but this is a nuisance, isn't it? I don't have an adapted car like yours but hopefully someone on here has and will be able to answer your question. Take care. DD

Hi Mike. You did so well to pass your driving test and I’m sorry your arm is playing up now. I’m wondering one or two things:

    1. Are you actually driving more or less than when you were having lessons? If you’re driving less now, it might be that you’re not using the muscles frequently enough. I found that, once I wasn’t driving every day, my arms seized up. If that’s the case with you, I’d suggest either driving daily or getting some useful exercises from a physiotherapist.

    2. Where is the push/pull lever? I used a pull on/push off handbrake but it sounds as if you might be meaning a steering device? If so, could you explain exactly where it is and how it works?

    3. It might be that you just need to do some exercises after driving that will relax the muscles that have been overused.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

the push and pull leaver is right under the steering wheel , so when I pull it back it is touching the wheel , so phoned moblitily up and they said that maybe the people that fitted the device could move it , so to day phoned them up and told them my problem also said if it was moved then I could rest my arm on the door rest. I am using my car a lot now , so I am guessing the pain is coming from this , it did hurt for a while on my left arm as I was using the steering wheel ball a lot , but this arm got used to it , my right arm never gave me any trouble , so I guess the extra use of the car is telling on the right arm now , when you use yours did your arm hurt and if so how long before it eased??????

thank you for responding to my post

hi barbara , I was shocked to relaise that my arm being sore was caused by the car after the number of lessons I had but now I am using the car every day were the lessons were once a week i have phoned the company that fitted this push and pull they said they had no paper work of me and would phone back no call yet .

phoned moblity up to make sure I had the correct number , they said I had so ok there
thank you for reading my post

I do hope the mobility people will be able to help, Mike.

My own pull on/push off device was the handbrake so that wouldn't be much help to you. I used an automatic with the foot pedals swapped round but a normal steering wheel. Driving always made everything ache but I enjoyed it. How long the pain lasted depended on a lot of other things such as, if I could rest when I got in or if I needed to do other things.

    Hi Mike,

You know I was so pleased when Toni told me you had passed... a huge well done there for you.

I also wonder if its because the muscles are a bit weak and in time it will ease but could the mobility people help you with some kind of rest as well? if its on the steering wheel it might be harder to have a rest attached but could be worth asking them if they have any ideas.

Hang in there and again a so well done! Hi also to Hazel and Mike jr. Cris xx

That's a good point there Cris - maybe they will get stronger and therefore less painful over time :)

Such a shame Mike when you have worked SO hard for your license
