Tragedy

Iam a liverpool fan but i dont think you need to be a football supporter to be shocked at what happened at Hillsborough in 1989. The fact that 41 people could have been saved is probably the worst piece of information that has been made public today. Finally, the families are getting to the truth. Maybe now the 96 who died that awful day, will finally get the justice they deserve.

I am just so glad that history will know that the fans were not stampeding or doing anything wrong.
May they all rest in peace

Hi 7worlds
There are no words to described what they did and said about the fans, the fact that they only allowed a couple of paramedics on the pitch was disgraceful, my heart goes out to the family's.Love

I remember watching this in horror. My daughter was mad about Liverpool at the time.
I'm pleased the relatives have finally got the answers but why did it have to take so long. Its all very well for DC to say sorry but that doesn't bring loved ones back.
I do hope that some-one somewhere is made to pay for this.
RIP all the Liverpool fans who lost their lives, you'll never be forgotten.0 -
My husband and son (then aged 17) were present at Hillsborough and witnessed the tragedy as it occurred. They had to watch as all the bodies were brought onto the pitch because the crowds were told to stay put to make way for the emergency services. It had a very bad effect on my son, and he had nightmares and flash-backs for ages afterwards.
People didn't have mobile phones in those days, so when I saw the news-flash about the disaster on TV, I couldn't contact my husband. I had an agonizing couple of hours wondering whether my husband and son were alright. It must have been devastating for the relatives of the people who were killed when they received the terrible news. They have had to fight so hard to get to the truth, and my heart goes out to them.

A similar story to Joan... my brother was there in the Leppings Lane end and has never been the same since. Being caught in the crush was terrible enough for him but as he was a theatre nurse he volunteered to be part of the medical team in the changing rooms.
He was so absorbed in helping his fellow supporters it was the early hours before we heard from him and found out he was safe.
I'm sure this news will distress him again and he will be called as a witness as the investigations start up again.
Lets hope there is soon some peace for these people who have fought a long dignified battle for justice.Ruby0 -
a great day for Liverpool and the 96

Joan and Ruby. Your stories are very moving and sadly so typical of that sad day.May your relatives too, now find peace in the wake of the terrible truth.

I remember watching this unfold on television and I am so glad that at last the truth has been made public and exposed all those despicable accusations such as stealing from the dead as lies.
This and the Heysel tragedy finished my interest in football for a very long time.
