Clicking the mouse

My old laptop has gone to 'puter heaven so I'm using my university laptop. I got it as part of the disabled students allowance and thus, didn't get to choose it myself. I find the mouse an absolute nightmare. It requires effort as does the keyboard. I have an external mouse and keyboard which is fine when sitting at a desk and studying but no good when I'm just playing around on it. So, I'm after a new laptop (when my student loan comes in!) and wondered if anyone found a particular ergonomically friendly one. I'm not a mad fan of tablets of the iPad and my budget is not huge.

Alternatively, I could just spend less time on the laptop..........or not!

Well, you can forget that option, Starburst as we want you here as much as possible.

I'm afraid I can't really help, though. I prefer a proper keyboard. When using Mr SW's laptop I find I have more control over the mouse if I use the side of my index finger. It seems to shoot about less that way.

    Hi Starburst

    Oooh a new laptop :)

How lovely - now if it was me I wouldn't have the first idea :? but would think one with a good bit of memory incase you want to 'add' anything in the future (voice activated software etc). That and going to have a look and play around with some at a large PC type shop.

Ask my youngest and her only 'essential' would be that it be pink

    Love

Hello Starburst, it's an interesting question but almost impossible to answer as what suits one may not suit another. I think Frog is right, get thee to a big store and play around with what's on display. I did this when a family friend offered to buy me a Netbook and I found the perfect machine for me - it's not pink though, just silver (but still pretty!) Have fun and let us know how you get on with your research. DD

I can't help with the computer but would recommend a tray to put it on - on your lap.
I bought my Toshiba because of the larger keys, easier for stiff fingers and use a plug in roller ball instead of the finger rolling bit. This sits on a cutting board mat by my side, mind you I can only use my computer while on the bed propped up with pillows.
I have a Belkin one that is a slope shaped and my laptop sits on it nicely (I have added a non slip mat mind you, as I'm very clumsy). It's quite old though.
I'm sure they'll be some more modern ones about now if you researched them.
    Just an idea.

I've spent a lot of time touching laptops in various shops. :D Think I've found one I like, just thought I'd ask if anyone had found one particularly useful. I use a laptray and I know it's really bad for me to sit like this but it's habit!

    Thanks for the tips!

    Hi starburst

Mine is a compaq laptop and I love it but my husband complains about it each time as he can not tame the mouse and does often forget which side to click

I don't use a lap tray but in summer I am sure it would be better as the lap top does make you rather warm

I am glad you have found one that you like and hope that your student loan comes through quickly.
