Hi . Does anyone have or has had this condition associated with rhematoid arthritis ?
My younger sister of 44 yrs went to the GP with a red right eye. Referred to Opthalmology Dept where they told her she has 50% of having RA. They asked whether there were any members in the family with RA? Yes, me and our 1/2 blood Aunt.
They took blood tests , which are not yet back. My sister is otherwise healthy and works full-time. Any help / advice / info = greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard of this condition, crabtree, but I'm pretty sure another eye condition - uveitis - is, or can be, connected to RA. As they are both 'itises', ie producing swelling, maybe there is some similarity or connection. I hope someone else can help.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I have had this a few times crabtree.
It is very painful inflammation of the white of the eye. Hurts to move the eyes about too
I was never told there was any connection although l did get secondary infections such as tonsilitis.
Treated with antibiotic drops and steroid too.
I think she best not worry if she is well you know....I DO have some sort of inflammatory arthritis, but have never yet had positive RF so i am very interested too.
Try not to worry yourself too crabtree
love and hugs

Hello crabtree,
I have RA and have eye problems. Mine didn't start until my son's wedding day ten years ago. Woke up with a bright red inflamed eye,can you imagine the panic I was in. A&E ( it was 60 miles from my home) were great and produced some drops that really helped.
Mind you I'm the one in the photo's that only has a profile, the only full one is with my eyes closed!
Ever since then I have to use daily drops. As long as I keep using them I'm OK and have never had such a dramatic problem since.
Although I'm retired now I did work for another 8 years with no problems to my eyes.
So even if your sister has RA with eye problems, the drops are great and deal with the problem very well.0
