Christmas presents

Yes I know it's far too early to be thinking of Christmas and I don't usually start planning until the end of November, but whilst standing on the quay at Maldon looking at the old sailing barges I had a brainwave. I've booked a trip for my daughter and her boyfriend for a trip in early January. They get mugs of hot chocolate to keep out the cold and when they return to the quay sit down to a lunch of bangers, mash and jam roly poly. A bit different I thought.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Janet xx

Sounds good to me, Janet, but I'm a last minute Christmasser. I'm not yet ready to relinquish the last of the summer wine  It'll be mulled all too soon.

Mr DD and me went to Maldon on our tenth wedding anniversary (July 2007). It was raining heavily and we couldn't find the quay, not even a signpost for it. It's still a very well-kept secret for us! That sounds like a smashing present, knuckleduster, what a good idea! DD

What a lovely idea :!: Things can be a bit flat in January, so it will be something for your daughter and boyfriend to look forward to. I just hope it doesn't snow though.

That is a lovely present and I'm sure they'll be thrilled. Now to keep it a secret for 3 months.

Argh Christmas presents! I'm good at it normally but this year I have to buy for my new nephew, I love buying children's gifts but my brother has clad him in designer gear with designer wooden toys and I just don't have the budget or inclination to get something he'd approve of. Already scratching my head, most gifts I've given my nephew so far have been 'put away' i.e. in the bin/cupboard because they aren't fancy enough!

LignumVitae why not put the amount of money you can afford in to a card then that can go towards what your brother would approve of.

Goodness Trayce, already written your Christmas cards! You have planned ahead.

I don't know how old your nephew is LignumVitae, but I find books are always appreciated and this year for my nephew who will be 18 months I'm buying a couple of D----o sets for children of that age which are made by L--o. Hope this is acceptable from an advertising point of view. My nephew has got all the designer gear and clothes due to wealthy grandparents on the other side but he wears clothes from supermarkets too because his mum (my niece) is down to earth.

I find it really sad that your brother should do that,a little understanding is called for, books or book tokens are always a winner.Mig

Thank you everyone, I find my brother's ways very sad at times, his loss would be ok but I suspect it will be his son's loss at this rate. He's less than a year old but I've gone with your idea and as Mr LV is Aussie I found two beautiful aboriginal inspired books! An ABC and a 123. Thank you for that idea! I might go further with it and get some dreamtime books which are aboriginal folk law. Might not be designer but it's certainly original I reckon :D
