Hi all
Just a question really, does anyone have different consultants for there joints. I know they are qualified in different areas, but I have now acquired an Hipman, a back one , and a hand one, at 3 different hospital in the same trust...my neck is painful but i just dont want to go down that road.
Thanks in advance xx
Love
Barbara

no help from me but that does sound strange but you will get about a bit shame most hospitals look the same on the inside val

    Hi Barbara,

Thats the problem with ortho's but they can talk to each other if you ask or they think they should.... Mine did it over dinner in the restraint in T  Its not common for them to work together but they have the area they specialise in and I guess their knowledge of each others speciality isn't as good?

Confusing though especially when they all have different ideas. Leaving a cuppa and a ((((( ))))) Cris xx

    Hi Barbara,
I think it probably varies from district to district, it certainly happens around here. I see different Physiotherapists for my hands, knees and shoulders, and they refer to different consultants. I only go to two hospitals though, and find even that, confusing at times
    Wishing you well,

Yup, that sounds about par for the course. A hip joint is different to a knee or shoulder or the spine, so yes, you will end up seeing different chappies under the same general heading of orthopaedics. It may be a little confusing and a faff but I think I would find it reassuring. DD

Hi Barbara, Where I live since the new shake up and reorganisation of our hospital we have separate clinics for the different bits of us.
    So you attend the hand clinic or the hip clinic etc;
However most of the surgeons do several of the different operations. Some specialise in hips and knees and some in hands and feet and some do only do one type of op.
So you can end up with the same surgeon for two different bits if you are lucky.
On the other hand I've had 6 ops so far and had a different surgeon for each one with varying results.
I believe it's because it's supposed to be more organised herding us into one area for one problem at a time. Joy

I see the top rheumatology consultant mostly, but occasionally see another good consultant if the boss is away, but there are a few registrars that see some patients.
I have a orthopedic consultant sometimes for my knees they were both replaced in 2000, and one was replaced again in 2003 after one was dislodged whilst playing badminton.
The team I have now is the best team I have had in 40 years of RA. and it is an all woman team.

Yes, mine specialise too. I have the same hip and knee man but, when I’ve needed to see someone for feet or hands, they’ve been different. Luckily they all hang out together in the same hospital though.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi Barbara,
Same here.....I have one for my hips and one for my back...admittedly both the same hospital but the previous back one was a different hospital and different authority???
Before I left the back specialist he was dictating a letter to the hip specialist so at least they are keeping in contact.

    Hi Barbara

I go to different hospitals for different things too  I haven't had an MRI scan in the same hospital yet even though it was taken for the same problem

Will be thinking of you on monday when you have your injections
(You do remember which hospital it is don't you  )

    Have a good weekend

Remember Hileena's 'generalist'??? he was supposed to be able to pull it all together do you have one of those instead of a neck-man???

Really you would think an orthopd could do the lot
