Really fed up with trying to find out why I have so much trouble walking because of pain in my knee up to my hip.
I had an mri scan on my knee that has come back showing nothing wrong.
I told my gp that I thought it was my hip as it always is painfull to touch and the pain goes from the hip to the knee. Now after speaking to another gp he is getting an exray done on my hip. I have tried to get the higher rate of disability and the gp said today that with the results that he can see on my records, I wont get it. I feel like giving up trying to get anything anymore.
One thing that I have on my records is spinal OA and I believe that that is more the problen as it is from the neck all the way down to the lumber area.
What would you do???? :(

Hi Elsa, it is very possible that your knee pain is associated with your hip.
As you already have an x ray under way you need to see what that shows up.
If that's also a disappointment you could try and push for a full MRI scan, or at least a spine/knee area one. There are many things that do not show up on an x ray but the scan will show you in all your inner glory! Hopefully pinpoint a problem and then you can get the correct help you clearly need. As you already have a diagnosis of OA in the spine you should be able to get one done.
The Higher rate DLA is notoriously difficult to get, especially these days. Don't give up though. You can always appeal or give it a few months and apply again.
When you've got a more difinitive answer to your pain you may find you slot into the DLA's criterea and then there will be no problem.
It's very frustrating living with uncertainty, I hope that the next few weeks will bring you a definite diagnosis and wish you luck. Joy

What would I do? It's not an easy one but I'd be thinking on the lines that my knee was OK and my spine definitely wasn't OK. So, I think I'd see what the hip x-ray showed as the pain might be coming from there or might simply be due to your walking awkwardly due to the spine. Either way, I think I'd be asking to see a physio. Stronger muscles will help. If the hip x-ray is clear then I'd definitely want physio. I hope that helps.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

It's a shame they didn't listen to you when you said you thought it was your hip

Good job they are now going to check the hip out now. If you have had back issues do you still see anyone about it?

If your hip comes back clear it could be your back as you suspect....if your GP is good maybe you can see a back specialist. There are a few on here who have had hip pain which is actually their backs and vice versa.

DLA relates to your mobility and care needs - in your shoes l would have a chat to someone from CAB before you decide not to apply. They tend to be the 'experts' about claiming benefits, which has got really dificult to get at the moment. If you already get the lower rate it might not be worth the risk, but CAB or dial are the best place in my opinion to start.

    Take care
