Lol, only by the advertisements for &^%$£ bras

I'm by no means overweight but have had boobs that could've earnt me a fortune in the past  . Two breast reductions, once when I was 16 and the second when I was, 21 both on the NHS at Guys Hospital and that was 50 years ago

Had many a year with normal sized boobs but as I've got older, bit like Topsy, they've grown!

I did think when I saw the advert "Oooh this could be an answer" However, although with OH's help I could step into the bra and have him pull it up to where it should be, what I didn't appreciate is if you are full breasted then (forgive me here) two boobs pressed together produce a sweat rash.!

Sitting here bra less with Diprobase cream between my boobs and before you lot laugh your socks off here's a better joke for you all.

OH is addicted to his cashew nuts and I always think it's impolite to scoff them out of the packet.

"I've put your nuts in a bowl dear"
"Oh, did you want me to put your *** in a wheelbarrow?"

I think I could suggest further and better things for the manufacturers so that peeps with screwmatics could benefit from their bras but I don't suppose they'd listen :?

I'm not laughing, I empathise. I would love to be a two-peas-on-an-ironing-board kinda gal but I'm not. I know those bras are not an option for me as I am an F-g cup (although DD is my aim with the weight-loss which has currently stalled for the time being). One of life's joys which is still available to me is removing the underwired contraption and letting the watermelons hang free (and down  ). How about a liberal application of talc both between and under before donning the bra? That may help to keep things drier (and can be topped up during the day). It is, however, lovely to hear from you again, Cherrybim, how's things? I hope you are as well as you can be. DD

hi DD now we all know why you are called DD lol

i think bra designers need a swift boot up the butt to get more stylish bras which fasten at the front. i have very skinny ribcage and a large cup size and was struggling to keep a straight face when i went to get an order from M&S....the woman, in a huge loud voice said to the young geeky studenty type guy,,,can you look for the order for mrs a, you wont miss it cos its in with the specials as its an odd size. off he toddled without batting an eyelid...modern young man lol

putting on bras with this dumb disease is impossilbe for me following normal convential methods and fastening it at the front and twisting round is actually more painful for folks like me who have wrist neck shoulder and arm muscle and nerve problems.

i could not go out without a bra. its my generation i think. we didnt get to burn them

sometimes the shoulder and armpit pain are excrutiating and i think that it should be us, with the problems, who design proper bras. i wear wired ones usually but not much good for the rib pains i get, this could be made of firm gel and still give the support without the pain. ive tried loads of different shapes and fits and still think bras are naff.

maybe there should be a thread of bra suggestions. mine would definately be more front closures but they tend to be maternity ones, ones for having wild nights of steamy passion and ones that were designed for the dark ages.

i had a friend with huge boobs and they made her life a nightmare. she didnt ever get a reduction done and going on the pill made them bigger. they caused her a lot of psychological trauma when you went beneath the laughter and ultimately she has suffered from severe back pain most of her life. i wouldnt want no boobs but better than than larger than life ones that make you suffer. i dont think the skin creams are very good because they are keeping moisture in - why not find a specialist shop that provides more fabric at the sides of the bra giving better support and maybe keeping them apart a bit?

I posted a reply to DD but it's vanished !

It went something along the lines of who invented the cantilever bra for Jane Russell.

I'm no feminist but if the blokes can't invent the most comfortable bra for ladies with screwmatics then we'll have to do it ourselves. They'd certainly turn around a bit sharpish if their parts had a problem.

I do come from a long line of Hugenot corsetiers and dressmakers and I know exactly what we ladies need. The only problem is being able to source the fabrics, carry out the manufacture etc and that is where the problem lies. I'm not in reality going to set up a new business at the age of 68 am I

I don't know whether Arthritis Care would allow it but I would certainly love to know what we women with arthritis want from a bra. I know what I want...no wires for a start. When arthur is having a go, wires are a torture from the middle ages.

  I really doubt it, cherrybim

I, too, am not laughing, except at your joke at the end which I loved. Itching and chafeing anywhere is no fun at all and definately not there. I am in the luxurious position of never having suffered it as I fall into DD's two peas on an ironing board category - one pea actually since the mastectomy  but I have every sympathy for those more endowed than I. Get inventing, ladies.

Howard Hughes invented the cantilevered effort for Miss Russell.

I have never done the bra-fastening-at-the-back thing, it's always fastened round me middle, twizzled round then hoicked into place (with me bending slightly forwards to drop the watermelons into the boulder holder bit, tip passed on in an M&S bra fitting cubicle). Again talc is used to ease the twizzling and on bad days the twizzling can take a while but it gets done.

Front loader unwired bras are available but not necessarily the answer. I think it's a case of each to her own - and lots of research too. I don't have the energy for that though so I'll stick with Asda bras for the time being. I saw a branch of Rigby and Peller in Cambridge over the week-end, and wondered about going in for a fitting but as their bras are truly ridiculous prices I didn't. I guess I will soon be wearing a Triumph Doreen like my Ma. YE GODS. DD

Oh dear, oh lor that might well be the answer Arfa

Yep, I knew that DD after I'd got my head round it.

Well, 'tis soon harvest festival time when all will be safely gathered in.

Do I understand that no one is with me on this one

The Doreen bra is the most widely sold in the world DD but my surgeon always said that a Berlei bra was the only one which took into account where the nipple should be in relation to the clavicle and indeed where the breast should sit on the chest wall. That'd be 52 years ago this very month

Thank you all for this honest thread- it's left me with an enormous smile- not at your struggles but the humour- much needed-having a fairly grim couple of weeks after getting as chest infection which has given me a mega joint flare.
As for me- well my lovely brother once described my endowment as 2 fried eggs on a plate  - but I do find the fastenings tricky on bad days.
Hope you all find the much needed comfort and support- and when you do maybe you would share the secret?

I do sometimes have to get OH to 'do me up' and when a friend suggested sports bras as an alternative as a former runner myself I enquired as to whether she had ever 'applied' a sports bra, she hadn't...I don't think my thumbs could take it!

Magnetic clasps are good but as a very curvy lady I'm not sure I would feel 100% *safe*

Good (and funny - you have to laugh!) thread!

Well we do have to keep abreast of the times, knowing the latest bras is useful, I like the sound of magnetic fasteners myself. Tell me do they do a dounle Z
Now here is a laugh for you, I bought 9 pairs of underpants in Tesco's on Saturday, and 6 of them hadn't a slot in the front to do the natural things us men have to do.
Now 3 pairs did, now they were 3 packets identical, but the 6 pairs were made in China, and the 3 with slots were made in Bangladesh.
Someone should be hung for that, in fact well hung.:lol::lol:
Dilly and I had a great laugh over this, Dilly saying that she thought they were made by China women for their own men.

I buy front fastening bras online, usually from needundies. I am a 38c but they do quite a few styles and some are very supporting for the larger lady.
Mind you I still step into mine and pull them up as my shoulder arms don't work very well at higher than my middle.
I have also bought some for my mum who is larger than me and she loves them, which is surprising as she normaly objects to everything I suggest on principle!
I think if you googled front fastening bras for the (ahem) larger bust, you'd probably find lots of options to explore. Joy
