    Anthem To Disability

    by Kathleen Thorpe

    Pretend you don't see,

    that's right - look away

as you pass by her wheelchair every day.

You with your laptop and mobile phone

so much in a hurry on your way home.

Just stop and think as you rush for the train

and remember this - she has a brain.

    At sixteen she read Tolstoy

    and Chekov too,

    understood every word.

    How about you?

At twenty she starred in an Ibsen play.

    Brought the house down -

    "Who's Ibsen?" you say,

as you vacantly stare through the evening rain.

Remember this - she has a brain.

She belongs to Mensa and CND

camped out at Greenham in '83.

    She fought for freedom in her youth;

said "Ain't I a woman?" like Sojourner Truth.

Take a deep breath, look back again

and remember this - she has a brain.

    She had seven children,

    strong girls and boys

    who lived in a house

    full of love and noise.

She taught them to care for their fellow man

and make a difference wherever they can.

Look into her eyes so full of pain

and remember this - she has a brain.

This is a poem written about me in 2002 and would like to share it with you.(sadly to say that since writing this poem my friend has passed away)

Constance is her name, slim as the Scottish flower

    Blooming in moorland air

She comes from Cape Town's coastline

Quite helpful, with grace and flare.

    Always cheerful, never complains of

    Restricting ailments, ever in pain

Forever the host, bright smile to match

Standing firm, stalwart, like cottage and thatch.

She is kindly and attentive, always with care

    Overriding problems, willing to share

Hosting support groups, forming a common bond

    Comparing, sharing afflictions, seeing beyond.

    Complementary therapy with thoughtful unity

Creating group sessions free with impunity

Troubles shared, turn dispersed and away

    Unquestionable progress, diminishing dismay

Hope that you enjoyed this poem as much as I still do today

    Stay safe everyone x

That's lovely Constance. Your friend had talent. VERY complimentary too to yourself. Sounds as though she thought a lot of you.🙂

Kath I think I remember yours it should be given to all nurses and carers to read as part of their training!

    For All Those On Prednisolone

I've a question for all those on Pred,

how to cope with the craving for bread?

    Are you like me

    sitting on the settee

    as you watch the TV,

    with a plateful of sandwiches

    there on your knee?

And then of course there is pizza,

    cheese and onion, tomato, Chorizo.

    it isn't a crime

    whenever you dine

    just take your time

    with a crispy side salad

    with flavours sublime.

But sometimes it's crisps that I need,

my desire for those carbs I will feed.

    I should have pineapple,

    orange or apple

    as I get to grapple,

    with weight I have gained

my efforts are really quite laughable!!

    🙄 😦 😩 😷

    Has Covid met its match?

    Will the vaccine finally dispatch

    the virus that everyone dreads,

kept society apart and lives in threads?

Can we all begin to relax?

As friends and family meet freely as before,

    with hugs and kisses galore?

Will joy return to our world?

We hope and pray for success

    and mothers and fathers rejoice

as grandmas and grandpas are blessed

with babies to their bosom pressed.

We’ll cheer for the nurses who cared,

all the accolades they richly deserve

and the jab does its job destroying Covid.

Just two little jabs to save the world.

Isn't it tough when posting your first post and finding the right thing about what to write,

As in your head, its differently said, whereas to others it could read back like ****,

I will try to abstain from talking of pain with the ongoing cramping and constant aches,

And be uplifting unless everything is shifting, because being upright gives you the shakes,

Hello my names Mark only been on the V/Ar site a few days but was diagnosed in 07 with osteoarthritis in my neck and i also have it in my lower back and hips, i have always liked poetry and dabbled a bit but not to the point of to post it publicly until now :D

    " Hello there "

While i have this nice new space,

I hope i can put a smile on your face,

and maybe alleviate a moment of pain,

or bring some sunshine while its pouring of rain,

I will keep it simple and light, and easy to digest,

until i get up to speed and then show you my best,

yet if you want a poem written on a topic just for you,

leave me some ideas and i will see what i can do

    😎 👍️
