Sorry, this is not arthur related but been up all night worrying, got a letter yesterday from my neuro telling me to get to my GP and get my bloods done again, I was at hospital last week for treatment and my bloods have shown my white blood cell count is dropping and an increase c marker of inflamation in my blood, also have to get them repeated the week after before I go back for next treatment. I am probably worrying over nothing and will feel like a woose when all comes back clear, when I read white blood cell count I had visions of my dear mum who had Leukemia, as I said probably worrying over nothing, when you live on your own and don't have anyone to talk things over with your mind goes into overdrive, sorry for being such a drama queen.....Marie xx

    Hi Marie,

Oh it is horrible to worry and being on your own. Sending you some warm (((HUGS))).

It is understandable that you worry over the drop in white blood cells and link it to the cancer your mum had. But, as I am sure you know, the drop in white blood cells can have many other reasons.
What is your diagnosis and treatment?
I hope you can get to see your GP soon and ask him to explain further, so you don't worry so much.

    Hugs Pia.

    Hi Marie
I know its so easy for me to say don't worry. Its hard for you being on your own and having no one to talk to.
Its good that it was picked up about your white blood cells.....it really doesn't have to be anything nasty. You can get an infusion to pick them up again if needed.....it really means you'll be more prone to picking up bugs...ie common cold.My white cells are up and down all the time.I've never had an infusion as they right themselves within a week.
You take care and please try and relax and get some sleep.

I agree with the others, Marie. There are all sorts of reasons why the WBC can go up or down. I also agree that these things always seem worse when one is alone and especially when one is alone in the early hours. However, you are by no means being a drama queen. Get thee to a doc, get those bloods done and explain your worries. They are the people best placed to reassure you. (())

I too chose the early hours to panic and things usually seem HUGE and insurmountable around then so do not call yourself a drama queen. We all worry about bloods and it sounds like you have reason to understand such worries more than most. I hope it is just a glitch, meds can do this to you quite easily, that's why they get monitored so closely. It sounds like somebody is doing a good job of keeping an eye on you, I once had a low wc count and they retested and all was well, just been a bit run down and over doing it. Big hugs and lots of support and hand holding whilst you are at the doctor today. Thinking of you xx

Thanks very much LV I am sure it will just be a glitch, I had had a uti infection the week before although I had finished the course of antibiotics there was maybe still infection lurking about. The hospital I attend does look after you well and they check my bloods all the time. I am afraid the hand holding will have to wait until monday as the powers that be have decided it will be the nurse that is doing the bloods, at least I will see my consultant soon thanks again........Marie xx

Pia I did reply to you earlier I don't know whats happening with this computer today..... Thank you for your hugs and kind words I am sure it will be nothing to worry about, I feel a lot better all down to you guys. I have a very rare neurological condition that affects my sensory and autonomic nerves and with arthur on top as everyone knows life is not very good at times. I get intravenous imunne globulin(human Plasma) treatment every few weeks it helps keep the pain bearable, when I see some of the people in the ward especially young ones getting various treatments(especially for MS) I count myself lucky that I am mobile for the moment, my treatment seems to have slowed things way down, once I get a good sleep tonight I will be back to my old self tomorrow thanks again.......Mariexx

It must be awful being on your own and no-one to talk to when you are worried. Of course the middle of the night is the time things like that hit all of us.
I dont know much about WBC but it could be just them being over cautious and having you back for a check up just in case!!!! not because anything is wrong.....things are better caught quickly.
My BP was sky high when I was in hospital for a day procedure. They said to see my practice nurse when i got back.....saw a doc and it was still up and I've been going back every couple of months to have it checked. The way I looked at it was at least it was better caught early than late...as it happens its going down....Got one tomorrow.
Talk to us.....and keep us up top date with what happens
    sending (((((())))

Hi Hileena thanks for your reply and hugs, you are probably right about them being over cautious, and you are also right if there is anything amiss it will be caught early.......gosh that's not so good about your BP although good that its starting to come down, did they put you on beta Blockers? have they got to the route of what's causing it? I have the opposite my blood pressure is on the lower side and having been getting dizzy spells and I am on Beta Blockers for palpitations neuro not happy about it, so waiting to get a tilt table test done, hope all goes well tomorrow will be thinking of you let us know how you go............Marie xx

I hope you can sleep a bit better tonight as stress and worry help nothing - not that that ever stops any of us

At least the bloods will be done and the (schoolboy  ) consultant will soon be visited.

    Take care.

Bloods do all sorts of odd things every now and again - one of the reasons for the monitoring is to pick up the first signs of something POSSIBLY being amiss so it can be even more carefully observed. I've had some dodgy bloods in the past but all has been well, everything has settled after a meds tweak or meds abstinence. It is very easy to say 'don't worry' (and almost impossible not to) but I try to take the view that fretting when I need to is better than fretting when I don't. Come and talk to us, villier, most of us auto sorts have been there and know what it's like. I wish you well. DD

DD thank you for taking time to post a reply in your time of stress when you should be trying to take things easy........I try not to let myself get stressed but lately all I seem to do is go to hospital appointments, for instance last week treatment, surgeon for finger, tomorrow to get a heart monitor next week bloods to be done, see cardiologist also a lip biopsy done(test for sjogrens syndrome) and the list goes on, normally I can usually take everything in my stride but the letter yesterday was a bit all to much, I think the reason I was so worried was they haven't found what is causing the neuropathy although it started 8 years ago it is only the past couple of years that things have seriously moved on and they couldn't even give me a dx so I was sent to London to see a professor at the Hamersmith Hospital, between him and my neuro I finally got a proper dx, inbetween arthur started playing up so here I am today I can't thank everyone enough for all the kind words and support I have been given as friends don't understand the pain you go through............sorry for rambling on.... DD saw your new post will catch you over there thanks again........Marie xx

One vital thing that hasn't been mentioned, our blood readings are affected by what we eat and drink, if you are not on a strict diet.
I agree what other members have said, but please remember we are all different.
A good example is myself, I regularly get a junior doctor panicking because my sodium reading as changed {UE's}now I am so used to this happening that it doesn't bother me anymore, but it did at first.
The reason for this is my diuretic which I take for my bad heart, but it usually turns out a storm in a teacup.
    Good luck.

Thanks Arfa.........this is the first time there has been any problem with my bloods so obviously panicked a bit, have been speaking to a pharmacist friend and he says that the anti-biotics that I had been on could be the cause of the falling blood cells they were really strong ones as the uti that I had was pretty severe and the inflammation that has shown up could be down to arthur, so feeling a lot more positive now........ I do eat quite a healthy diet lots of low fat food and drink lots of water, I do have an occasional treat although I don't get enough exercise so I am carrying a bit of weight, three and a half years ago I was out running most nights...........thanks for your kind wishes.......Marie xx
