Had a wee moan last week but just an update.severe o/a in both hips, 38, now retired nurse coz of it.was on 2x dihydrocodine four times a day,2xparacetamol 4 times a day,1xdiclofenic 3 times a day. went from nothing to all them. had xray on knees and shoulder coz they were also sore but my xray came back 2 days ago saying wasnt in my knees so that is good. seemingly the same nerve goes from hip to knees so causes pain.girls and boys I have a right issue taking all these pills.. Has anyone else been like that? since finishing my job my hips have not been as bad so took it apon myself to stop all my tablets.poooooffff just like that but boy did i suffer today. only had a small walk around the town and i thought my right hip was going to break.lol. being a nurse is a bummer at times coz u question dr all the time and think they may have got it wrong..Is this a normal amount of tablets to take? Sorry im just having another peed off day with this coz now i feel like im lazy not working because I have never not worked in my whole life and this o/a is very unfair in my eyes..some times i feel a fake because I walk upstairs with the help of the banister , I manage to walk about outside but feel sore.do u know what I actually do? i sit on a chair and try and spread my legs apart coz I almost convince myself its just my legs are stiff.lol.then go in a totally bad mood when it doesnt work. right, moan over for the night.. thanks for listening guys coz im sure my husband is sick of it..

it better to come here and let off steam yes we all go through the they must be wrong and also they think it in my head but living with it shows us that it real and we can do things to help but not make it right exercise helps with pain and stiffness never stops it though but helps you can also use distraction read play games what ever takes mind off pain. also use ice or wheat bags i get pain in hip that coming from knee you can not work out what it going to do val

    Hi
Its better to moan to us sometimes than to hubbys.....I suppose they do get sick.
My GP said to me that nurses were the worse patients  {I have epilepsy as well} and always leave it until the last minute to get the tablets i need
According to my GP there was nothing wrong with me and he told me to take paracetamol. After demanding a referral I went from paracetamol to the consultant seeing me , sending me for an x ray and me going back to his office and he said "You need 2 new hips"
    I'm on similare meds {after one hip replacement} paracetamol 2 x 4 a day
dihydrocodine and diclofenic but recently chaneged it to to naproxen.
The dihydrocodine spaced me out....couldnt take it so I have codine to take as needed.
Are you on omneprozol or something similar......stomach protector?????
I know I'm preaching to the converted but when its yourself rather than a patient it can be different.
Keep on top of your meds....dont play catch up!!!!
    Love

As the others have said, far better to let off steam here than keep up a constant drip drip on those we live with.

Hey you're an all-or-nothing girl, aren't you  ? You go from no meds to a lot instantly and then instantly back to zero again  I guess we'd all love to be med-free but it just isn't an option. There are different views on how to take them as you'll know but an all or nothing approach aint one of them :)

If you're still on nothing, I'd suggest re-starting the diclos and topping them up with paracetamol if necessary, keeping the DF118s back for emergency use. They're strong meds and I'd be totally spaced out if I had 8 in a day. And, if you don't take a stomach protector, maybe you should ask for one - certainly at the first sign of trouble.

I'm pretty sure it's highly unlikely your hips would break, just from walking about on them. You're just more aware of them because of the pain. In fact exercise is good because it strengthens the muscles which support them. Just try to keep the pain to a manageable level. You can't get rid of it completely but nor can you pretend you're OK and don't need the meds. Take care now.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Gosh do I feel for you, I am a lot older at 62, but I also have OA in my hips and back, I do have a little bit in one knee, but also the referred pain in the knees.
I am really glad you are talking to us, and dont apologise for having a moan, it really will help, have you been referred to a pain clinic,if your meds are not working they can get then changed, I am in the process of coming down on some of mine then they can put me on the slow release patches .
But please dont forget we are always here.
    You take care xx

A normal amount of pills? Who knows? I take more than that and inject stuff too, for the arthritis and the side effects of some of the meds. (I have both sorts, an auto-immune and OA.) One thing I have learned over the years is that because things feel better they aren't, all that is happening is that the arthritis is 'reacting' to the lesser stress being placed upon the body because one may be doing less. The meds are given for a reason - to help matters. One can choose not to take them because you don't want to but then you're not getting any help - as you have discovered. Your life has changed (as have ours) none of us like the change that arthritis demands but we have to accept it, adjust and move on - creakily! I wish you well. DD

Yes you are all right guess none of us like the medication taking. I had to come off diclifenic as got water retention with them so they are discontinued. I have went back on meds but just paracetamol and dihydrocodine for emergencies . Wish my appointment with orthopaedic surgeon would hurry up then I can put this behind me for a while. Sorry I don't answer anyone's threads but I don't know the answers .but I'll keep looking and see if I can help. Take care all. Xx wendy

Life is complicated at times, we think we know that but then summat else arrives. Keep in touch, OK? We will do our best to help and support you. DD
