Rhumy Appointment

Well, today I had my appointment with the Rhumy. I was hoping we could find something out to do with my knees but like my GP and Hip consultant, they are all convinced they are giving me pain due to over compensating for my hip.

Got yet more X-Rays done of my hips and it was plain to see how mishaped the end of my Femur's are. Very significant spaces in the joints. I will be referred to a physio as he believes this will help me out with a lot of my problems, including my knees.

His only other concern was my bad pains and aches in my lower back. Had an X - Ray for this as well and the good news was that I do not have spondylosis of my lower spine.The bad news is that the pain and aches are not connected to my Arthritis of the hips, but actually wear and tear of the lower spine.... its mishaped and arthritis showing there as well.

Will see how physio goes and hopefully it will sort my knees out. If not, will push for an X-Ray but will also be asking them to look at the upper part of my back and neck as this is also giving me lots of discomfort.

Arthritis = Character Bulding :roll:

    Hello Rewter - I like your final comment, arthritis is character building indeed!

    I reckon that your knee trouble will be connected to the hip trouble but I am not a doc. I think if one joint is out of kilter it throws others out too but we don't necessarily realise how much. I was aware my knees turn in (that's where my arthritis began) and was amazed at how they 'face front' when my insoles are in my shoes - talk about hurt! I can also feel the difference in my ankles and toes. I'm sorry about your lower back showing the signs too - also referred hip trouble maybe? DD

    Hello Rewter

    Like DD I agree completely about arthritis being character building! Brilliantly put!

    I'm pleased you seem to have at least some answers now, although sorry that the news isn't good.

    Until I experienced it myself, I had no idea that "referred pain" could be so bad. In the early days of my RA when my feet and knees were particularly painful, I was convinced that my hips were affected too because the pain in them when walking was, if anything, worse than the feet and knees. The rheumatologist told me he thought it was referred pain and that it would ease when I was able to walk more comfortably - and he was absolutely right. So they may well be right about your knee pain being due to overcompensating for you hip.

    I really do hope the physio can help you.

    I hope the physio will help, rewter. Referred pain can be very misleading. I was sent to the foot orthopaedic surgeon because I could hardly walk on mine. The ankle was fine but the TKR above it had slipped its moorings. I'd no pain there at all.
    If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
