I went for a walk - for fun!

My OH and I went for a longish circular walk today, including a muddy and uneven footpath. The sun was shining, and I realised it was the first time I'd enjoyed walking for the sake of it for years. My legs hurt, but mainly the muscles used for balance I think, not my knees. It wasn't a problem; actually I felt as though I could have done a lot more. Enjoying walking, wow! I think my TKRs have been a success.

Marie, you don't need to take your hat off to me; I really had little choice. I could barely walk to the car, and that was on strong painkillers. I reckon I'd have been in a wheelchair within a year. My consultant said my Xrays looked horrible, and my knees themselves looked even worse; that's why he offered to do them both at the same time. I'm just delighted with how successful they've been; I still have a way to go, but I feel like I've just got my life back. Luckily the rest of my joints are pretty much OK - occasional aches in my hips, wrists and thumbs, but nothing serious, and what 64 year old doesn't have some aches and pains? I know I've been very lucky, but on my experiences I'd recommend this op to anyone.

I think that anytime anyone with arthritis hears of about someone getting a boost in their quality of life, in your case a significant one, we can't help but smile.

    Hi Helen
    Well done you!!
I used to walk quite a lot, just nice country walks at the weekend with my hubby, but I've cancelled my National Trust membership as walking more than 10-15 mins is painful at the moment.
Glad it was a lovely walk and thanks for the happy story to cheer us up!!
I'm determined to walk for fun again one day soon

    Great news Helen! :-)

I have actually managed without any walking sticks at all for a whole day the very first time..........I have up until now used 1 stick on my morning walk to the bus stop (bus to work)

I'm feeling just a wee bit chuffed with myself!

I'm really glad you enjoyed it, Helen

I often walk for fun. Not very far, admittedly, and not without pain but I love walking in the countryside. It gives you a lift and is good exercise too.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
