Had my first MTX jab

Had my first MTX jab today. The nurse did this one and I am to do the next 2 at the hospital, then I can do them at home.I cannot watch injections being given even on TV when it's not even real, ie: Casualty,Holby etc.But I watched this one today so I would know how to do it.
I had a hot feeling all over just after the jab and felt a bit sick, has anyone else experienced this with the jabs? I can't wait now until I can do them myself.

I've not had the jabs but I take Methatrexate and it makes me feeling sickly. Hope it wears off quickly for you0

I would attribute the hot sicky feeling to stress - an injection is not a natural act and it takes some chutzpah to do it. (There was a rheumatology nurse at my hospital who had RA, she would cheerfully stab us with meth etc but took up to two hours to do her own injection. Once we stopped laughing when she told me this she explained that doing it to us was an entirely different ball game, which makes sense.) I do my own meth and I barely notice it now, there's a bit of a palaver in the bathroom with the sharps, getting a little plaster ready (I recommend that, sometimes a little meth bubbles onto the skin) and preparing the needle but then it's done and dusted in under five seconds. Simples - and much more convenient than going to the hospital (I once had to wait 90 minutes for the under five-seconds. ) You will get used to it and we will be with you all the way. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thankyou DD The nurse doing my jab said even she didn't think she would be able to inject herself. I have overcome the first obstacle, watching the needle go in,so hopefully I will be fine next week.R.A. FMS IBS RLS IGD with honours.0

Hi Rita,
I started injecting myself with mtx about 4 weeks ago, after a trial at the hospital. I was on the tabs for about 10 months, but they were not keeping the inflammation under control. I can tell you, at least with me, that the injections are far more effective. The tiredness and sickness have gone, although my wrists are still a bit stiff and painful some days. All in all a huge improvement. I hope you get the same result. I made my hubby stand beside me while I injected the first two times as I was a bit scared! Good Luck!0 -
Thankyou all Elaine,it is good to read you are having a good result with the Meth Hope it works for me too. Can't wait until I can do them at home myself.xR.A. FMS IBS RLS IGD with honours.0

Well done in doing your first jag yourself.
When I was told that I was going to make the switch from Meth tablets to Meth injections I nearly died in the chair!
I am terrified of needles!
But now having done the injections myself for several months I have to say that its actually helped reduce my fear of needles.
Although I still don't like it I have learned to torrolate it.
The Meth injections work much better than the Meth tablets.
Good luck with it.0 -

Well done Rita in having had your first one and fronting up to doing them yourself - lots of support here and from others who have learnt to do it. Did they also tell you to relax when you do it ?! I'm sure it is something you will learn to do without batting an eyelid.

Well I am a nurse and I have given thousands of injections over the years, taken gallons of blood and sited many a cannula. Sticking other people is no bother but I don't think I could be as brave as you RitaW, I definately couldn't even consider doing my own!
Round of applause for bravery! X0 -
I'm sure luck won't come into it, but good luck anyway Please let us know how you got on.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

How did it go? I too got a bit stressy, shaky and warm when I did my first few. In the end, it all became normal and not so odd. I did hum whilst doing it but you might want to wait til you get home to try that!
Hope it was OK
LV xxHey little fighter, things will get brighter0
