I have just started on these, and have googled them like you do...really just to see how long they take to start working....it says between 6 and 24 hours.
Put 25 one on Friday..and no relief yet...just feeling so sick...but I think that will clear with time.
I know everyone's different , but was just wondering how you lovely people on here got on with them, xx
Love
Barbara

I've no experience of these, Barbara, but I do hope they work for you. Fingers crossed.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I was on similar patches but mine were bupronorphine
1 had to increase mine as the low doses were not strong enough
I ended up on a high dose with vry little effect so my rheumy advised me to come off them gradually
I did have side effects nausea & light headedness
They do work for some people but not for me
I hope thet give you soon relief

Hi hun.. I have been on them a good few months now with zero side effects.. I am currently on 50mcg's but have varied between 25's and 75's..
I really hope that they help, remember to replace them at the same time every three days, (I assume they are the three day ones?) and I was advised to swap sides each time and place them above the heart, although I know others on here that have been told it's ok to place them lower, I've just always stuck to that particular rule.

    Best wishes mi dear

I've not had them, Barbara, but I hope they do start to help you soon. As you say we are all different but don't persevere for too long if they are causing you trouble. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Hi Barbara, I tried these last year and found them very good painwise at first. However I soon needed a higher dose and they completely knocked my brain out and I had to give them up. My gp said that about half of the people that try them have to stop because of the sedative side effects.
However the other half find them wonderful and use them for years.
The only thing you have to be careful of is having hot showers, as this can make them give you an extra dose or two.
I then tried the Butrans and like dachshund I had a problem with red wheals and itching, so had to give them up too.
So it seems that if they suit you they are wonderful, I hope this is the case for you and you get a lot of pain relief soon. Joy

    Hi Maria
I have just upped them to 50...but sadly not much relief at all..maybe its me putting to much faith in them, I will give it another week them will try the higher does.
I promise to let you know how I get on..I do hope you can find something, must say the biggest help I have had off any meds is the gabapentin for nerve pain from my back ,
    Wishing you well xx

Hi Barbara, I put faith in my pain meds to and get fed up when they dont work or take a while to kick in properly ,I have never had patches for pain but asked many times because R/A is always there despite everything we do .The Gaberpentine is probably the best I have been on its helped with the nerves in my Tkr WHILE NOTHING ELSE DID .Hope they work for you soon .Marrianne :)

I was on 75mg before my THR in July & at the time thought they didnt do much to help, but then I ran out & discovered that they did. Use them as well as your other meds & Im sure they will help , probably not pain free but good base 24hr medication, I particularly found them good for easing pain at night & helping me sleep.
I found they took a few days to get into my system , and felt light headed & bit sick at times to start with & each time my dosage was increased.
Be careful how much alcohol you drink as they are strong, I felt very faint after a glass of wine one lunchtime. My own fault really, shouldnt of had it !
Ive still got pain in my other hip & spin due to OA , but at the moment Im just on 25mg patches, co-codymol & naproxin , much less than before, so pleased with improvemnet.
Would love to be medication free though - wishful thinking !

    Hi Maria and Lazycat
Maria I haven't had much relief from the 50mg....I asked could he up them but he wants to wait a few more weeks
Lazycat thankyou for that..it good to know that they do help, I have taken cocodamols with them but not had much if any relief, I think maybe like you they need upping, but not sure if he will..but like you say you dont notice the relief sometimes till you stop taking them, I may be picking your brains about the THR...xx
oops Tony didnt see you there, thanks for that I do think I have become very impatient with this blinking pain....x
    Love

Thats fine Barbara, by all means PM me or on here if you want to. Im still learning following my THR , although Ive still got pain still think its made a huge difference & its still early days. Think I'll be having other hip done eventually.
Its all been a shock as happened so quickly (OA) from pain to THR. taken alot to come to terms with & still getting there. Ive found help & advice on this forum fantastic. Nice to be able to get information & advice without having to keep on about it to mu husband & to vent things when not feeling great , as everyone understands where my lovely husband doesnt & just tries to stay strong & carry on.
If Im feeling particularly down, I try to remind myself that its OA , Im not dying & just got to accept life is different & Ive still got alot of living to do.
I was terrified prior to my operation , reality was it wasnt nearly as bad as I thought, care I received was great , just think aftercare & advice is a bit lacking as feel just left to get on with it now until review appt. Its now Ive got questions that I didnt have initially, they arise as time goes on. I had lots of support from the forum before & after my operation which was so encouraging.
Ive got a nice new ceramic hip , which Im hoping will last me a very long time.
Im having a painful day today, my other hip & spine , so thought right todays a TV & Duvet Day & catching up on emails etc , surrounded on my bed by my lovely cats , I breed & show siamese , expecting kittens in the next few days.
The hardest thing for me is learning to pace myself , and rest when I feel sore & do things in bite size chunks as its so tempting to overdo things as Im so much better overall.
When are you having yours done Barbara ?
