Surprised myself

In the last month, I've gone from taking very little exercise to exercising in some form every day. I'm taking part in a '' Healthy Living'' scheme which my doctor referred me onto, and which includes advice about diet and exercise. Now I'm going to the gym, swimming, walking, and doing aqua-aerobics and Pilates classes. I've turned into something of a fitness fanatic :!:

I thought that my arthritic knees and ankle would prevent me from taking much exercise, but I've really surprised myself. Yesterday, I decided to count the number of lengths of the swimming pool I swam, and it was 15 without stopping :!: :o Only a few weeks ago, I wouldn't have dreamed this was possible.

Just put my name down for the Olympics in four years time- do they have any races for arthritic grandmothers :?: If not, why not :?:

That's great news, Joan. Best of all, you sound to be enjoying it. Be proud of yourself. I know I would be.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thanks for your replies and encouragement, Marie, Tony and DD and SW.

I do feel very motivated by being part of a group of similar unfit/overweight people, and we support each other. There's only one man in my group of about 12 people though, so it seems that men are more reluctant to take part in schemes like this. But I think that men are more reluctant to go to the doctor in the first place, so it's not surprising really.
