'The Leg Bone's Connected to The Ankle Bone'....

The neck bone's connected to the rib bone
No? - well mine seems to be.
I have always told the doctors about the bad pain I get sometimes on movement in my ribs/chest area that I felt was connected to my back problems.
My latest MRI didn't show any problems in my Thoracic spine so that ruled that out.
The specialist wants an MRI of my neck as he thinks some of my nerve problems with my legs could be due to something in my cervical spine.
I have never connected the two, until today. I was moving my neck about to try to loosen it up a bit. F
Forward, back, look left, look right, a bit stiff and achy and not much movement there, but nothing terrible happened.
Then I tipped my head right, then left sideways so that my ear went towards my shoulder.
I nearly jumped out of the chair when I tipped it left. So that's where the pain in my chest area comes from, my neck. I never would have connected it. I have tried it again (very carefully) a couple of times and, yup, that's what it is.
Does anyone else get this?

I am sorry to read about the pain you are in. I too had/have problems with my legs not doing what I wanted them to, if you know what I mean  and this was all due to compression of the spinal cord in the neck area found out in an MRI. I have been operated on to sort out the compression, but unfortunately the spinal column cannot repair itself and it takes about 18 months to find out if things will sort themselves out ie different nerves begin to do the job that those that got damaged used to carry out. There has been some improvement for me but not as good as I had hoped. It had obviously, in my case being going on for a very long time unfortunately.
I do the neck exercises that you mention every day so would have noticed if I had pain when doing those.
I do hope you can get this neck mri soon to see what is going on more clearly.
All the best,

I don't get this but it sounds as if your man is onto it which is good. I suggest you don't try that manoeuvre too often though :roll:If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Polly,
Oh flower the neck has a lot to answer for! I have advanced spondy and often the ribs kick me to bits but as well as the neck thing I also have problems with the intercostrials and and the sternum....
I hope they can help you soon and maybe physio? Acupuncture can help but now mine is zapped with botox and medrone every so often. Hang in there. Cris x0 -

Oh yes, Elna, I know exactly what you mean. I would struggle to walk in a straight line without my trusty stick now when I am out and walk slower and slower the longer I am on my feet, as the legs don't do what I want them to.
I used to think that I was imagining it and many a time would try walking as fast as I was able, up and down from one end of the bungalow to the other, willing my legs to walk smoothly.
I hope none of the neighbours could see me from the front window :oops:0 -

No, I don't think I will, it hurts
I did it 2-3 times just to make sure it was the same pain as I had been getting. I am relieved really, as I was beginning to worry that it might be an internal problem, especially as the MRI gave my thoracic spine a clean bill of health. At least I now have an idea where it is coming from. I will make sure I remember to tell the specialist about what happens when I put my neck that way.
I have read that of you have cervical problems you can get a pain in your spine if you put your chin down to your chest, but never seen it mentioned about this way.0
