Repeat Prescriptions

Hello everyone, just got home from the chemist and I am quite upset as the assistant who served me gave me a leaflet and told me to bring it home and read it, as I had 6 items and that anyone collecting any more than 4 would have to attend a pain clinic.

Now my pain killers are Co-dydramol and Tramacet, the other 4 items are Autovastatin, Ad-cal, Omeprazole and Piroxacam gel.

So the threatened change in the NHS in March has already started, I'm thinking that my only option is to get half my medicine one week and the others a couple of weeks later if thats possible.

Forgot to say that I am also on Injected Meth and Folic acid, but I get the meth from the hospital.

I have my meds rolled out so I never have them all in one hit, I have a repeat pescription and the chemist delivers them to my home. I haven't heard anything about if you order so many painkillers at the same time you have to go to see the pain clinic? Maybe they are rolling it out in certain area's 1st. But this is the 1st time I've heard about this!

    Silverbirch... Don't worry....

Is the leaflet from your GP..? or the Chemist as advice only....

I have 12 different medications on my repeat list, and have NEVER had any problems, and I work 'somewhere' where I would definately know about this, and at present have not heard anything about any new repeat laws.....

Don't let it upset you & your weekend, I suggest (your choice) just have a quick chat with your GP next week....

Sometimes 'some pharmacies' hand leaflets out as advice/info only...

Remember Your medications are authorised by YOUR DOCTOR, it is only the pharmacists job to issue them...

Hi, I have up to 14 items a month, the latest prescription was picked up last week. I have never been told anything like this ever.
Also as it takes months for us to get Pain Clinic appointments through the regular root, I really can't see how they'd cope with millions of us at once!
I think there must be some kind of misunderstanding here or the chemist chain is doing something itself.
You can get your prescriptions anywhere you like and do not have to stay with one in particular.
If I were you I'd either ask why this chemist has this policy and what it's all about or just go to another chemist. I really don't think that this has anything to do with government policy.
Although I usually use one particular chemist, many times I've popped into Boots, Morrisons or Asda for it, if it's more convenient that month.
I shall ask next week at my local one for you to see if they know anything about it.
Try not to worry, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Joy

I would just tell them you are already going to one! Like the others, it sounds like a pharmacy related initiative. I get called into the pharmacist's office every now and then as I am on so many meds. I just do a lot of head nodding and agreeing and carry on as usual. They are supposed to check the GP isn't giving you conflicting meds etc. so that can be useful.

I would love a referral to the pain clinic, been begging for one for ages and questioning as to why I hadn't been sent before!

It is scary when you get to a point where you juggle meds to the point where you can cope and then they want to change or take one away. OH has epilepsy meds that they him want to stop taking but he's not keen as he hasn't had a fit for years so can drive but nobody knows if it's the meds that have stopped the fits...

Try and enjoy the weekend and I inadvertently do the same as Bubbadog and get mine at different times but this is because I am disorganised!

Was wondering if it is a pharmacy related initiative as pharmacies get dispensing fees on all precriptions they prepare, if that was the case they would stand to lose a lot of money........just a thought...........Marie xx
