Hi All.
I would like to ask you for advice on knee arthritis pain
About a year ago I found out my left knee has arthritis...I have still managed to get out walking...but just the last couple of days I have felt a new kind of pain in the knee right at the top...it is also a bit swollen.
I am a bit confused by this,,,I have heard about flare-ups but do not really understand what this is all about.
Also would like to hear from anyone who still goes walking with knee arthritis and how to help with the discomfort

Thanks
Angilee

    Hi Angilee,

I have JIA in both knees and I get swelling on my right knee aswell. To help i take ibuprofen every 4 hours aswell as cocodamol and I use an ice pack when I can.

I too use knee supports and they really do help.

    Hope this helps :)

Hi Angilee, I have Osteoporosis in both knee's and they swell more and get hot when I get a flare up. I don't go walking due to the brittleness of the bones so can't answer that question.

    Hi Angilee,

Good advice on here about knees - I too have OA in knees (plus other exciting bits of body!) and yes, they do get hot and swell a bit - and hurt - mainly when I walk or stand too much. Other exercise is much better for me - gym machines, floor exercises, SWIMMING! My knees find these quite acceptable. Unfortunately most of us have to walk around sometimes so the swell-up can be unavoidable. I find my knees like to be talked to as well . . . do yours?

i take it you have osteoarthritis. you should do exercise to increase muscle bulk in your legs to help support the knees. swimming and non impact sports may help aswell. you can normally take antiinflammatories or try the gel, but best to check with your doc first as depends what other meds your on etc.

    Hello Angilee

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your knees. I know only too well what you are going through. I rub various pain relieving gels in and wear supports if I am having a painful day. And kneeling is a big no, no.
A good physio will be able to help you with muscle strengthening exercises.

    Best wishes.
