Hi . Because my OA has got much worse in my neck, i have had to increase my co codamol 500 up to 8 times a day, i also need this for the stroke i had
I have been kept awake at night with very itchy skin and am aware that co-codamol can do this
Does anyone else here also get this too and is their anything i can do beside not taken co codamol :x

Hi paulch, I empathise as my skin is often itchy thanks to eczema/psoriasis type stuff - it's miserable isn't it? I think you need to speak to your GP about this - that is an awful lot of co-codamol to take and a meds review may be useful. In the meantime it's best to avoid using perfumed soap, biological washing powder and moisturise using aqueous cream or E45 (the former is far cheaper!) Take care and I hope your doctor can help. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Paul,
I am sorry that the cocos are causing itchy skin.
One listed coco side effect is indeed intching:
Allergic Reactions - skin rash or itchy skin, difficulty breathing, increased sweating, redness or flushed face, mucosal lesions (such as mouth ulcers), drug fever.
I would call make contact with your gp about this if I were you.

Hi Paulch, you need to go back to the gp as I think you need an alternative pain medication to the cocodamols. It sounds as if you need a stronger medication in a smaller dose.
The higher the codeine content the more the itching/breathing problems are more likely.
There are lots more options and it may be time for you and your gp to consider one. Joy0 -
I don't know what is causing the itching but my mother, who had oa and took cocos also had a really bad problem with it but it turned out to be another drug she was on. You really need to get your gp to have a look at your meds, or your pharmacist might be an easier person to discuss it with. We found out by going through the small print for all her drugs as her gp was quite useless. She did confront him in the end and got her meds changed.
A word of warning about aqueous cream - my gp told me recently that people are developing allergies to it so she won't prescribe it. There is something called epaderm which is very good and you can get it on prescription.0 -
Hi Paul
to be on the safe side l would check with your GP or pharmacist in your shoes. You really should as some rashes can be serious :?

I suffered from very itchy skin for ages but had no idea of the cause ; it wasn't until my medication was altered from co codamol to tramadol that the itching " magically " vanished . I would get it checked out to be certain that it is caused by the cocos , but have to say that my only way to be rid of the irritation was to dump the meds causing it .0

Thank you for advise, as you all say i need to coco changed although i got the same effect with morphine, and at the moment i am fighting a UTI
I will ask if i can be put on tramadol. :?:0 -
Hi Paul
I hope you get over the UTI soon - poor you
Tramadol is one you could ask to try - why not it might work and not give you a rash, which would be much better.
