Hi all, I've heard a lot about new drugs for AS is anyone taking them and if so what are your results?
I've had AS since my late teens and am now in my forties and just recently I've seen a return of the bad years, this pain is depressing and anti-inflamentaries don't touch it.
Cheers in advance.

Hello Tim, and welcome to the forum. I don't have AS but I have RA and they are treated with the same meds.

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you talk about 'new meds' and say that NSAIDS don't touch your pain. I hope you're not just relying on NSAIDS and I hope you are seeing a rheumatologist regularly because a GP can't prescribe the meds that you need.

I take a couple of Disease Modifying meds (DMARDS). There are also the anti-tnf group of meds but I haven't needed them. (Yet! Touch wood ) If you're not on any of these, and you know you have AS, you should insist on an appointment with a rheumatologist. This is very important as NSAIDS alone won't slow the progress of the disease. You might also need some pain relief. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thanks for the reply, I seemed to have fallen out of the loop when it comes to seeing rheumy and so have no idea what's out there to take at the moment.
The last visit to the doc's was about 12years ago, I know I shouldn't have left it that long but don't think I ever got to see a specialist just the local doc.

Hi Tim and welcome to the forum
Sorry I wont be much help, but like SW says you must ask to be referred to a rheumy, there is a lot of help out there.
I do wish you well with it all x

It is important to see a rheumatologist, Tim, and, if your GP doesn’t agree, you should see a different one. I can’t emphasise that enough. I hope you can get this sorted quickly.

    Hi Tim

    Nice to meet you

I tend to agree with the others there will be new drugs you haven't tried or even heard of. With AS you ought to be being 'seen' by someone other than the GP

    Love

    Toni xx
