Sore feet!!!

Hi... Just wondered if any has any info on feet ops? I'm 31 years of age and have had arthritis since I was 18. For the most part, it's really well controlled by Cimzia... Except for my feet. The big toes/balls if feet are so swollen at the moment that even wearing the most comfortable of shoes, are causing the feet to bruise and blister.

The last time I saw my consultant, I was told "it's just the shape of your feet"... But I'm sorry, the shape of someone's feet should never be causing this amount of pain and suffering. There have been days I can't even out my feet to the floor!!!

I work full time in a job that I love doing. I don't want to give it up and I'm quite sure the UK government doesn't want a 31 year old girl on full time incapacity benefit, if there's something out there that can be done!

I've an appointment with rheumatology in 2 weeks and is like to know if anyone has any useful info on ops on feet. Specifically the balls of feet and to stop the smaller toes becoming "claw like"... That way I can go armed with the info and see what can be done!!!

Thanks all...
Sore and frustrated!

Hello Trolleydolly. It's good to meet you. I've read and re-read your thread and the one word I fail to see is 'orthotist'. Has no-one mentioned them? They should be able to make you some insoles that will help your feet and prevent further damage. I've had to wear surgical shoes for over 40 years and without my excellent former orthotist I'm sure I wouldn't still be able to walk. Your rheumatologist can refer you.

Hi... Thanks for your reply! Yeah I seem one of these guys a few years back. I was given just the regular insoles they give out to anyone, then I had special insoles made, by taking casts of my feet. Disaster - my feet just didn't like them at all and even wearing them for couple of hours was leaving my feet really tender and black with bruising. Don't know what the next step is...

In your place I'd have a chat with the rheumatologist and see whether a return to orthotics or surgery is your best option. I can't help there as I've never had foor surgery.

    Hi Trollydolly

I know just how you feel i have the same problem with both feet .I had an operation in 2010 on the metatarsal next to the big toe , op went ok did not know i had rheumatoid arthiritis untill this year and they said that the break was all linked .I have had a terrible time with my feet and have been given new insoles just last week. BLISS I have few aches but its so lovely not to be in constant pain .When you go back to your consultant and ask to be referred to the peds dept .
Good luck and hope all goes well .
