Fountain pen

Hi
Went to the Rheumatology Clinic this morning, had blood taken. Anyway, I was really surprised to see the nurse changing an ink cartridge in her fountain pen. When I commented on not seeing fountain pens nowadays, she said using one is less strain on the wrist than using a biro. I may be the last person to find out about this and you're all probably filling your pens with ink as I speak . . . The only negative thing I can think of is whether fitting the cartridge may cause a painful problem.
Any comments?
Thanks
Shula

There is certainly less friction between an ink nib and paper than a biro - biro ink is very sticky and requires some force to move the pen to leave an impression but we don't realise it, we just think we're writing! Rollerballs are smoother but it is possible to use a fountain pen without a cartridge: Parker sell a converter for their pens which works by sucking in ink from an ink pot. I've one which I use and it's fine. Yoropens are good for achy hands but the plastic biros are non-refillable. I have a metal Yoro which has similar ink to a rollerball - I love it. I tried a fountain pen for that very reason and it is easier but after a while, I found it was much heavier than a biro pen. Unless I have to sign something I use a lovely light and easy to use pencilHey little fighter, things will get brighter0

Thanks for that advice. I avoid handwriting if possible but will try your suggestions as any little thing that helps is worth it!

I would end up covered in ink  and then the pen would get oinched from my desk0
