old pennies

My 92 year-old mother read in the health section of the Daily Mail about a man who put old pennies in his shoes and his arthritis symptoms improved enormously. I glued old pennies into my mother's slippers about three months ago. She is sleeping far better and now rarely uses the TENS machine I bought her.
I felt mild arthritis pain in my big toe today and put an old penny in my slipper. Just realised that I have no pain.
Sounds too good to be true but I simply report what we found.

I have loads of these - I will make a mint!

All that money that companies have spent on drug trials and all I needed to do was rifle through my tin of stuff found in sewing boxes...:)

The theory is to do with their high copper content. There is a company that 'specialises' in copper insoles and of course some swear by their copper bangles. What sort of arthritis do you and your mum have? DD

Hmm, I know about the copper content. The chap in the article used the pennies because he thought the copper insoles were too expensive. We both have osteoarthritis. GillianB

Osteo is the most common form of arthritis, I have it too but in my case it was caused by the joint damage from my auto-immune sort. I've had no benefit from magnets, copper, glucosamine but I think mine is too far gone to be helped. I have another two years or so to wait for new knees but that won't necessarily help the rest of the affected joints. Hey-ho, no matter. I hope the coins continue to help, as for the insoles I think they're only about £25 and surely have to be more comfy than coins. DD
