I hate flare ups!

Well the recent flare up has taken hold! My left hip and leg are swollen and extremely painful! I have to sit with several cushions under my left hip when sitting it makes me have to sit uncomfortably. Now I'm getting pains in my back. I'm better off in bed where I'm having to sit on the bed with cushions under my left leg and hip and I have to sleep almost in sitting position because I can't lie down as it's to painful. I'm not sleeping through the night, I'm getting 2-3hrs sleep. When I'm awake during the night I'm watching telly till about 1am and if I'm awake after then I'm reading on my Kindle. All I can say is thank goodness for Kindles!! I'm trying to ease off the extra morphine as much as I can because of the coming off it when the flare up eases off, so only having it in the evening to help with getting as good a night sleep as possible. Going to speak with G.P to see if there is any other pain meds to help get through this flare up as pain free as possible. I'm trying to find things to do to help keep my brain as busy as as possible that I can do sitting in a werid position until this flare goes!!

You are really suffering at the mo and for that I am truely sorry. And not enough sleep certainly makes thing worse. I really do hope that your gp can help you with something to help ease this flare for you.
I shall keep my fingers crossed for you and let us know what the gp has to offer for you. My thoughts are with you. Lets hope this damn flare goes away very soon. Then you can maybe catch up on sleep etc.Karen xx0 -

Hi Bubbadog,
I'm really sorry you're feeling so bad.
All you can really do is rest up, and hope it doesn't last too long.
Take care of you,

That sounds nasty, bubbadog. I don't recall my hip ever swelling but I did do the cushion thing shortly before my THR. I'm not surprised your back's playing up if you just used cushions at the affected side though. I put one at each side. The other didn't need it but it kept my back straight. I've only ever done morphine post op (and pre-op when I bust my other hip  ) so can't help on the meds front. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hope the flare starts to subside soon, and like you I do the TV/kindle combination into the small hours-the kindle is a godsend when the hands don't function so well.
Take care

Hi Amanda
I am sorry that sounds like a nasty flare there
I agree with you about kindles - GREAT invention
Distraction can help quite a bit - if only for periods of time can't it?
Hope GP hs some ideas for pain relief for you.
Love
