That sounds like a good appointment, gilly. They're making sure about those tests and I'm sure you won't be referred for bike riding unless they think it'll be good for you. I'm sorry, I can't remember where your arthritis is but both bike riding and swimming are usually considered good as the water and/or saddle supports the weight. I hope it all goes well for you. Please lwet us know how you get on.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Gilly, exceriseand weight loss is (unfortunately) the best way of reducing both blood pressure and stabilising thyroids.
I have had an underactive thyroid for 33 years. I can recommend a daily bowl of porridge,a garlic pill (no after taste I asure you) and a fish oil capsule. All of These can lower bp and chloresterol naturally taken over a period of time. Also porridge fills you up for hours so not too much snacking goes on. It took me a while to get used to it but I love it now. I even have a spoonful of brown sugar on it - delicious.
I have maintained a good weight for years since doing this.
I am extremely arthritic and have trouble exercising because of this. I do small movements and make myself slowly walk around my home every hour or so. I flex my muscles and lay on the bed and roll from side to side (quite a sight I assure you) and lift my legs up and down a bit. Since doing this small amount my muscles have improved. You don't need to do strenuous stuff to see an improvement.
Swimming if you can do it, is by far the best exercise for the whole body and the water holds your weight and poor bones together. If you are able to walk for 10/20 minutes , this is also good and cheap, just walk round your neighbourhood or the park if you have one. The trick is to do it everyday, whatever the weather. A dog, even a borrowed one is good company and makes you go out.
You can also buy a set of peddles that you can do while sitting down.We bought one for my mum who sits and watches tv while peddling away. Her legs are so much better and she has dodgy knees. It cost about £20 5 years ago.I wish you luck, it's not easy to have to catapult yourself into new ways but will be worth it in the end. Take care and let us know how you get on. Joy
