It hurts

Flaring or have I just forgotten what it was like due to steroid induced haze?

Both wrists, both elbows and my right shoulder have all been quiet since August (aka prednisolone summer "fun"). Joints were grumbling and grinding but not persistently painful. Hands and feet never really stopped hurting but certainly not at this level.

I can't handle the pain tonight. It's making me tearful. I have a busy few days ahead, so I can't even admit defeat and call in sick for a duvet day.

I probably should head off to bed if I have any chance of being up at 7 am. I just needed to get it off my chest. Thank you for reading.

Good night x

Oh dear, that doesn't sound good, Sophie. I think you're probably right - you've been on a pred holiday and managed to forget the reality and, if you're now off the pred, it will bite back. I hope it calms down again soon.

Now then, off to bed, take some dullers and get some sleep. I hope things will at least seem a bit brighter in the morning. ((()))

I'm sorry to hear this Starburst, I do feel for you. It's bad enough having this pain without the added stress of having a busy job.
Does heat help you at all? Perhaps cuddling up with hot water bottles and wheat bags would be a comfort.
I hope things improve for you soon.

It could just be that the pred effect has worn off or it could be a ghastly mixture of the two. I laud your determination to carry on with the coming busy days but please, please, please take them as steadily as you can. Good luck, I will be thinking of you. DD

How are things today, Sophie? Did you sleep OK? Make the 7am start? I hope stuff's as well as it can be and you're not pushing yourself too hard.

Thank you so very much for the support. I really needed it. xx

Long day, I didn't get a break and didn't have lunch till 3 but it's over now!

I've just got home, had quick hot shower, pjs and now relaxation time! At the moment, I'm a bit behind on studying but I'm just too tired. I'll catch up, I always do!

I have a visit to the vampire (blood test) so I get a lie in and I'm going in late which is great. Every cloud and all that......

Thank you for asking. I'm feeling a bit better today, well rested and trying to keep on top of the pain by taking lower dose co-codamol more often. This seems better than the higher dose every now and then once it's got unbearable.

You're probably already aware of this, Sophie, but, just in case, you do know that you can only take the same amount in 24 hours, don't you? It's not so much the codeine; it's the paracetamol that will harm you.

Wise words there Sticky - the technique you're using, Starburst, is what Frogmorton terms as 'getting ahead of the pain' so yes, please be careful with what (and how often) you are taking the co-cos. I am glad to hear that you are feeling better in yourself, that is a very good thing indeed. DD

Thank you, yes I do know. I discuss pain management with my fab rheumy physio. Her idea was lower doses - sometimes just paracetamol - every 4 hours (obv not exceeding 8 in 24 hrs) as I don't like taking 60mg codeine with paracetamol as often as I am 'allowed'.

i thought you'd be on the ball but just thought I'd better mention it. I'm glad the revised method works better for you.
