Hi Folks,
Hope everyone is as well as they can be.
I got my long awaited GP appointment today and he has requested physio for me as a result of the knee x-rays and given me Naproxen to try.
Oh well, at least I am making some head way towards managing this condition.
I am thinking of using a walking stick, recently my knees have behaved very badly.
Does the physio give good advice on height etc of walking sticks or have people just shopped around until they find one that suits?
One thing puzzles me about physio.
I have wonky feet, ankles, slightly curved shin bones, knackered knees and hips, yet the GP says the physio will only see to one bit at a time!
I don't understand, we all know the ankles conected to the...etc. so has the GP got it wrong?
I will find out in time of course but am just curious as I asked could the physio look at my ankle which is also very painful and the GP said no.
Also what is this obsession with stresssing the word "mild" you have MILD oa in both your knees and x-rays show MILD changes .. if so mild doc what must severe changes be like!
Hope everyone is as well as they can be.

Best joke I ever read, "With that information and a diagnosis of spondylosis, your doctor can develop a treatment plan" or back in reality totally ignore you. Is ok I have a sense of humour and a boxing glove, not defeated yet.

Hi
Good to hear you've seen your GP and there's progress with the physio and Naproxen. I don't know if I can be a great deal of help about the physio, but your knees may be contributing to the aches and pains elsewhere, so concentrating of them first may be a good idea. I think there are a lot of other people on the forum who will give you advice about this.
I know what you mean about the definition of "mild". It's possible to have "severe" OA but not much pain and "mild" OA but lots of pain! It makes no sense, but because of this it's really important to let any healthcare professional you see know how the pain affects your daily life.

Hi Shula,
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, it is good to at last get something that will help-I am keen on physio as it has been helpful in the past.
The "mild" to severe thing is annoying-I had x-rays on one ankle and both knees.
The ankle showed up no changes when I was convinced it would show up a fracture of some kind-really can be that sore-and hot!
Both knees showed up changes which did not surprise me at all, things crunching and moving have to mean something changed.
We are lucky we have a free at point of delivery NHS, as long as we can get GPs to believe us.Best joke I ever read, "With that information and a diagnosis of spondylosis, your doctor can develop a treatment plan" or back in reality totally ignore you. Hi there
I totally agree to you on that one - our physios only deal with one part of me at a time too  all the bits ARE connected and ineteract dont they
Glad you are now in the system and being treated - naproxen is a very good nsaid to try. My fingers are crossed it works really well for you.
Mild to servere  That is so vague isn't it? Anyway who feels the pain?? You know how servere it is don't you?
Ah well....so far so good I hope the new meds do help you
Love

I have bone-on-bone through 3/4 of each knee and bone spurs on both the lateral and medial sides, my ankle joints are narrowed and again spurs are growing but no-one has ever graded my OA. I can but not here as rude words would be involved. Quite a few on here are on nap and it helps them so hopefully you will be in that group.
I was measured for a walking stick by my physio in 2002 and I make sure that my crutches are adjusted to the same height i.e. my hand is just above hip-height. If you are only having the one stick then it should be held in the opposite hand to the poorly side. Good luck and I hope it helps. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Hi Toni I am going to ask the physio when I get there, no idea how long the waiting list is!
Believe me if this is mild I am going to super do anything I am told to avoid getting worse for as long as possible.
Hi DD - ouch, that is the word you were looking for? 8)
One side effect of arthur which will be sort of sad to lose is the heat!
Right now my knees are roasting, saving on oil in an extreme way.Best joke I ever read, "With that information and a diagnosis of spondylosis, your doctor can develop a treatment plan" or back in reality totally ignore you. Is ok I have a sense of humour and a boxing glove, not defeated yet.0 -
Hi
You are in the system now...thats the main thing. Physios do tend to do one bit at a time.....My hips are the main problem....so {when I did get physio} they worked on those because pain in one place affects the way you walk move feel pain in other places.....but they should get onto other bits as they progress.
As for a stick....yes use anything that helps....Ask the physio...he will probably give you a hospital one or possibly refer you to the OT and they will measure you for it. If you then find it helps and want to buy one you will have a guide to the height it should be.
I did have a stick but now its my back that is hurting more and its no good so i have a 4 wheel rollator. A square shaped one with a seat. Its much better....its trial and error.
I'm on he same dose of naproxen pluse paracetamol.....are you on something for your stomach??? If not you should be....lansoprazopl or omnoprazol {spelling??}
As for mild or severe....Like DD it has never been graded.....just OA in ankle, hips, lower spine and neck. Kypho scoliosis and spinal stenosis
Love
