Sorry for the last minute request, and I understand if you are pre booked to be elsewhere, but I am seeing my surgeon today for the follow up to my scan.

I am more worked up than I had realised and could really do with some of you in my pocket, to help me remember all the things I need to say mostly! Not been sleeping well with the pain/worry combo of late and my head is a right old muddle.

I seem to be getting worse day by day and can't remember my last good day! Taking the dose of gaba I am on now is making teaching really difficult - I don't think I can carry on like this for much longer. I keep playing the lottery but no joy so far!

So I really hope he will have a solution, in short.

Thanks if you can make it. It's at 11.30 this morning.

Helen

Aw thanks so much guys! I know I am always saying it but it really does mean a lot to have your support.

It was a good meeting, I suppose! I cried a little bit but only a few drops - mostly due to all this pent up stress.

The long and short of it is that he thinks he can help by fusing me at the dodgy level (l4l5). I am already fused at l5s1 and didn't have a great experience (see my tale in the "hello" section I think the thread is called hello spinal arthritis sufferer) with complications caused by infection and, of course, this level above going bad. So I am in a quandry really.

This is a new surgeon (old one got kicked into touch after messing me around for too long) and he seems fairly sure that this will fix my back pain. He doesn't think it will help with nerve pain, but then the facet joint injections did help with nerve pain so maybe it will.

There is no great rush to do surgery and he has sent me away to stew over it and talk over with Mr Frogmella. He wants to talk to us both before we do anything. These things all make me feel reassured that he knows what he is doing. He also said his success rate is really good because he is choosy about who he offers surgery to and only offers it if he thinks it will help. He said if I hadn't felt so great after the facet joint injections he would be sending me on my way.

He says that I won't be fell walking again even with the surgery (boo) but that I should be better enough to get back to walking holidays on the flat(ish). So I can go to Cornwall, walk the dogs to the beach, the pub and then back to the holiday cottage which sounds good to me! Just won't be ticking off any more Wainwrights - but I can't do either of these sort of holidays at the moment so to get one option back would be nice.

Thanks again guys. I think I might be back to ask advice once I have pondered. Expect me to change my mind a thousand times!

So I have a lot of thinking to do. All the what ifs etc.

A good appointment. Definitely a lot to think about but I like the sound of this guy and, as I only know of him what you've told us, I guess you do too. He sounds as if he knows his stuff and the very fact that he isn't pressurising you is a plus in my book. However, thinking time is good and, whatever you decide, we'll back you.

Yes! I do have a good one, finally! It is just a tough decision so I am going to take my time and make it carefully. As Mr Frogmella says - I made the right decision last time its just that I got rotten luck afterwards!

Off to put my thinking head on. Perhaps my drinking one too after this week
