can anything be done about it.

My elbows have started grinding,my knees have done for some time now and my neck but I was out with my brother tonight and all I did was rub my shoulder like people do and the noise really seemed to freak him out,I'm used to it and its not that painfull with all the tramadol I take but his face was worrying.

can the noise be stopped somehow,it really is one of those things like someone cracking their fingers that turns some peoples stomachs,I can't help it.I know my knees do it and can almost get up without the noise but the elbow I can't stop.

You sound like a nice chap, LesBrown, worried that the noise of your creaking joints may be upsetting other people. You could try asking the doc but, for my money, that’s how it is. They creak because that’s what they do. In the worst instances, I just talk loudly to try to drown out the noise.

A constant plaint on here is that other people don’t ‘get it’. They don’t understand the pain. My guess is that your crepitus is giving your brother some idea of how life is with arthritis and it’s worrying him. I think it’s probably that, rather than it ‘turning his stomach’. I know it would be with me. If I hear someone else creaking on getting out of a chair etc I feel concern and sympathy. It’s only when someone insists on constantly repeating an action that causes it (“Just listen to this!”) that I find it distasteful and annoying.

Carry on creaking. You’re not doing anything wrong.

    Hiya,

I creak from my knees like a good-un - and my ankles are now joining in. Between the joints and the amount of pills I take, plus either the sticks or elbow crutches there's no hope of me creeping up on anyone un-heard!

I've had physios go green in the past with the noise my joints make so I can sympathise entirely. There's nothing you can do apart from letting people know why you are creaking.

Best of luck and take care
