We've given the postman, milkman, bin men, etc a card with a Christmas tip in for 35 years and was just wondering if anybody else still does that.

It was the norm when we first got married, but I don't see anybody else chasing the bin men up the road waving an envelope.

Binmen here are not allowed to accept tips , we don't drink milk so hence no milkman and as for post ; well we have a different postman every week ! On the subject of tips though , we manage on my DLA and hubby's carer allowance , tips and gratuities are not really in our remit . Jillyb

Don't do it here same problem we have no milk and postie is always different, I did give a tenner to Wikipedia the other day and the same to Clear the Medical Cannabis reform group the other week as well, will also be giving a few bob to the local shop as it's run on donations and is suffering a bit right now, its crazy though the village is full of really rich people but they give little, I guess thats how you get rich in the first place!

Well, I do give the postman a fiver, he's fantastic, real old school, was so considerate when he knew I'd had my hip op done and couldn't run to answer the door. He, in turn deliver us a Xmas card from his and his family! I don't bother with the bin men, they have a habit of leaving the bins on the opposite side of the road or right in the middle of the driveway which I find a bit annoying.

No milkman so no tipping there. Postman/lady different every week - no tips. The first year after we'd moved we did tip the binmen but that was a once and once only. No-one tips me so why should I tip anyone else?

I tip because I wish to do so and not for any other reason. :D

Are teachers the new postman ,bin men and milkman? I am currently having to buy boxes for various teachers, teaching assistants, a mini bus driver and escort lady. I remember one year spending all my saved up M&S vouchers buying chocolates and biscuits for teachers!

Not that they don't deserve a treat but it does all add up.
