Lack of knee reflexes

I had my first physio appointment yesterday and when she was testing my
knee and ankle reflexes nothing happened...no jerk, she did'nt say anything to me about this.
I have significant degenerative disc disease/ OA in my lumber spine.
Initially I was quite worried (still am a bit :? ) but having looked online it seems it could me connected to my spinal problems.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?

physios aren't the best person to be testing reflexes, they certainly dont do that here. But it doesnt mean anything out of context. if you had incontinence and numbness aswell as no reflexes then it would be an emergency. nervous system problems would normal cause increased reflexes.
i get weird finger jerk reflexes which just happen sometimes. if your worried id get a doctor to check it.0 -
Hi Gill
I am the opposite to you - I have brisk reflexes. Not perfect but nothing can be done about mine. I suffered with compression of my spinal cord. I had a spinal op to stop any further deterioration there but unfortunately for me the damage was already done, which had most likely been going on for a long time. I really surprised myself today and did a 5 mile walk, sometimes holding on to hubby, but even so it is a long time since I have walked anything like that distance since my op well over a year ago.

I suspect that reflexes are as individiual as we are. I've never had good reflexes even before I started the arthritis - the only person who was able to elicit a small response was a physio, I reckon he knew the right place to tap! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Gilly
My reflexes used to be quite normal then a few years ago when I saw a back specialist he said in his report that they were very dull.
Since that anyone that has tried to get reflexes hasn't been particularly successfull
I did ask about it and was told that he would much rather they wer like that than overly jerky {if you know what I mean }
