Dodgy Hip!

Have just found out I have had a dodgy hip for years and years!! - this only surfaced because i had been having back pain on and off - assuming just general arthur ( i have inflammatory arthur) but have found out after having a serious massage that the muscle surrounding the hip joint has moved over the joint to protect it. I am in agony now through it all - my hip is proper burning up and the whole of my lower back!! - doing ice packs, ibrofen Gel, sr diflonfenic, co-codamol the works!! - my question is - is this quite common??
When I was first diagnosed my consultant said i had one leg longer than the other - do we think that is part of the reason why i am in the position i am now??
Help!

If your consultant said you had one leg longer than the other I'm surprised he didn't suggest orthotic insole(s) to correct is as, yes, it will impinge on any hip/knee problem. I almost always have one longer than the other - it varies which, depending on the latest implant - but I try to keep on top of it with the orthotist's help.
It sounds, from your post, as if the major pain started after the 'serious massage'. I wonder if that, in itself, created a problem. Massages can help a lot but the practitioner needs to know exactly what they're doing when faced with arthritic joints. I think you should get this checked out with your GP.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi x thanks for your reply - I've bought some insoles today. When my consultant first mentioned my leg length situation it was approx 15 years ago before I started having probs with my back etc I remember him saying it might cause problems later in life! But I'd forgotten all about it tbh until now! Was in agony today! - my friend came back up and massaged it again - I've made a app with gp's who administers steriod injections for tues - but don't think I can wait that long x0
