Has anyone had bursutis in the Hip?? - I'm having problems with my hip and someone mentioned Bursitis?. I've tried to phone my rhumy nurse today but the helpline isn't opened today!

It can be very painful, I was given injections in both hips but its only lasted a week. If the injections work though you can have them every 6 months so I'll cross my fingers and toes for you.

Hi,
I had bursitis in both thighs just below the hip- it was hugely painful and I struggled along for months before asking the rheumy nurse! (Not always very quick on the uptake, that's me :? ). I was in pain sitting or lying-nothing seemed to help. Eventually I had steroid injections in both hips- they weren't too bad because they injected local anaesthetic 1st and used ultrasound to track where they were injecting. I was advised to rest in bed for 3 days moving as little as possible to give the steroid chance to stay in the joint and work. It took about a week to notice substantial improvement, but almost a year on I'm happy to say it hasn't reared it's head again to any great extent, just a mild discomfort sometimes.
If given the offer of the injections I'd say it was worth a try, but make sure you rest properly afterwards to give it the best chance of working. Hope you get the help you need very soon, I well remember describing it like having constant toothache in both hips, couldn't think of anything else but the pain and so miserable.

I also had bursitis in hip and shoulder and had injections into the joints. The hip joint injection worked better than the shoulder. Problem has recurred for me though.0

I had the injections in my hips but it made no difference. But I had other hip problems that added to the bursitis pain.
Hope it works for you. x0 -
I have Bursitis in my right hip which causes major problems with walking. I've had injections done by my consultant which worked brilliantly for about 4/5 weeks, these can be repeated 3 monthly. The one time I had it done by my GP, he failed to hit the spot and nothing happened. The injections are painful ( if they get it right ) at the time but well worth having, they also give me a certain amount of relief from Arthritis and Crohns.0

Oh yes ive got trochanteric bursitis of both hips, its really sore and affect walking, sleeping, sitting and just general mobility...
Been told may need steriod injections if it persists but my dad who has bursitis also has had the ultrasound, kind of electronic wave treatment for his at the physio department...His comes back quite a bit too mind you....
I dont like needles so im putting off the steriod injections into the bursa and have had TKR 10 weeks ago so not keen on any more hospital appointments too..
Good Luck

Trochantetric Bursitis I suffered earlier this year.
It was caused by me putting more weight on my left side due to my right knee hurting.
I had some hydro therapy but learned to equalise the weight distribution, yes the right knee hurt more but the bursitis went.0 -
Elaine I thought the injections weren't as I had in my head. I was waiting on it really hurting and it was fine... never made any difference, but worth a try. x0
