Hi All,
I've had a cold for over ten days now and I can't seem to shake it off. It doesn't get any better and it doesn't seem to get any worse.
I did my Enbrel injection on Monday, as usual, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's affecting my recovery or in this case non-recovery.
With another injection on the horizon I don't know whether to skip the injection or do it as normal and just hope my cold goes.
Have you any experience of colds and anti-TNF? Can you advise me please?
Luv,

Oh Legs, that isn't good is it? There is nothing quite so debilitating as a cold, they can make one feel truly lousy. I am sorry and I hope it clears up soon.
Regarding the meds, on the advice of my hospital I stop the meth and/or humira until it's cleared. On the odd occasion it's turned into a chest infection and I've needed anti-bios I've ended up going without the meds for longer (to fit in two courses of the antis). Everyone is different though, have you rung your Rheumatology Helpline for advice? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Thanks,
No I haven't phoned my rheumy nurse yet I thought I'd check what my forum friends said first after all we're the real experts IMO.
I might leave a message for them later in the day.
I don't need antibiotics yet because I'm not running a temperature and therefore I think it's just a straight forward cold ............at the moment.
Just wish it would go

I, too, think you should ask the helpline's advice, Legs. I've taken a unilateral decision not to have my meth today as the 2-3 days' worth of laryngitis has now been joined by sneezles. Much as my joints would welcome the meth, my other stuff will clear up quicker without it. Happy New YearIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Poor you Sticky.
My dilemma is that I'm not sure whether anti-TNF is an immuno suppressant, I thought it worked by reducing inflammation in the body. Whereas Dmards such as MTX definitely suppress the immune system .....wise move on your part by leaving it off.
Happy 2013 to you too and everyone else.
Do you think we should start a forum 'coughs and cold clinic' then we could have warming drinks and rub each others chests?

Wouldn't work. Not enough blokesIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Yeh, you're right. And what few we have would be overworked
I'll stick to the warming drinks.

Enbrel (like humira and the others) is an immuno-suppressant drug. Chat to your rheumatology nurse as the thinking on this varies from area to area but, as I said before, I have always been told not to take my immuno meds when I have a cold or infection. I hope you feel better soon. DD
Sticky? Sneezles? Oh no.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

Depends on the man, mig. The idea is to make us feel better, not worseIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

count me in for the support group ..... having a case of the shneezles myself at the moment. Not too sure about the men in lycra though, haven't taken my meth so cant move much and I'm not sure all that laughing would help0

Hi Linda, I have to admit I stop my Enbrel when I have a cold even though my rheumy says only to stop when it's an infection. My colds tend to turn into chest infections. I don't bother to tell anyone unless am feeling really ill but you could ring rheumy nurse. Hope you feel better soon.0

Thank you for your replies everyone.
I rang the hospital yesterday and left a message on the answer phone, so far I've heard nothing but as it's not urgent that's fine.
I did feel a little better this morning and as Mr Legs has the same virus we had to risk Sainsbury's together as we haven't shopped since 20th December and the fridge and fruit bowl were bare! (We did try to contain our germs as best we could.)
The shopping has totally wiped us out, I've just woken up and Mr Legs is still asleep. I suggest you disinfect your screen after reading this, I would hate to contaminate anyone!

Can't be much help I'm afraid Linda.
I am going to clean my screen now as I really don't want these sneezes that appear to be doing the rounds. (((((May)))))0 -
These bugs sap what energy resources we have so it's no wonder it's snooze-time in the Legs household. I hope you are well stocked-up now and won't have to face another trip out just yet. I also hope the hospital get back to you soon - mine can take up to forty-eight hours for a non-urgent enquiry (well, what they deem to be non-urgent).
I forgot to ask - how's the babe doing? Thriving I hope - are you having to keep your distance as you're 'bugged'? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
No, May, I don't want to get the sneezes either, I suggest you wear a face mask
Ours is also a 48-hour answer time, Dreamdaisy so I shall just have to be a patient patient As for Jack he most generously gave us this cold so he's learning to share at a very young age. He is fighting fit again now, thank goodness.

Ah bless, what a generous little soul he is - bet you still love him though.
Have you come to any conclusion about what to do or will you wait until you've spoken to someone? DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Yup, definitely love him still
I've decided that if rheumy nurse doesn't come back to me and my cold's still raging, after what people have said on here, I shall miss Monday's injection. However if my cold's much better I shall jab as normal and see what happens.
All in all, thank you everyone for your help.

PS The hospital have phoned and said I should do the injection unless I'm on antibiotics.
If I'm worse on Monday go to see the GP and delay the injection till I get his diagnosis.
If I'm getting better have the Enbrel as usual.
I hope this helps anyone else with the same dilemma.
Thanks again for all your replies.

I'm glad they returned your call, at least you now have a better idea of what is what and what to do - good luck and I hope you can do your injection as usual. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
