So, here's the plan.

I am becoming more than a little bothered by my general lack of fitness and over-all muscle tone as the exercise that I usually do has not been that easy after the hand op. Wandering around a certain orange-themed supermarket yesterday afternoon I spotted a pair of resistance bands at half price so I walloped them into my basket. They have the encouraging feature of being pretty colours (pink and blue), different strengths and I have prior experience of using such things. So far, so good.
Lying in bed this morning I began planning how I would use them (they are still in their box, in an orange bag by the back door but give me some credit for thinking about them
). I tried doing one of the planned leg execises, realised that the bed is too soft a surface to be of any support and horror slowly dawned.
I will need to get down to floor level.
Getting down is easy, it's the getting up which isn't so further thoughts swarmed into my head viz which floors in the house could be suitable. OK, they all are but it's the getting up after which has to be considered. A plan has been hatched. I shall use the first floor landing - it's small in area but carpeted (an unusual feature in our house, the living and bedrooms have stripped floorboards, the kitchen and bathroom are tiled) but there will be enough room to do what I plan and I may be able to use the banister in some way too. (I don't think banister is the right word but I'm not sure what is.) As for the getting up - simples: shuffle to to the top of the stairs, legs down two or three treads then grasp the handrail and rise. So, this is the plan.
1. Dig out and don old leggings and Tshirt.
2. Get down on landing floor.
3. Get up and fetch the bands.
4. Execute a controlled crumple to floor.
5. Get up again and stick the answerphone on in case someone rings.
6. Crumple to floor and begin.
7. After five drippping minutes of small effort a feeling of great virtuousness will be experienced.
8. Get up and have a cuppa.
9. Repeat the following day.
Wish me luck. DD

That sounds like a fine plan DD and well done in spotting the bands in the first place. Good luck with it all (especially the crumple and rising again parts)! LV xxHey little fighter, things will get brighter0

Oh DD....The well made plans of mice men and DD. You made me smile.
Might it not be a better idea to wait until some-one is within shouting distance. We have block and tackle in the garage but doubt very much if we would here you.
Just be careful and don't go sliding down those stairs.I'm sat here wondering if I dare change the light bulb as my OH may not be back when it starts coming in dark.Think I'll have a coffee first.
Take care May0 -
Deep respect, DD. If I may just add a comment or two to your excellent plan?
1. I always find a change of clothing inhibits exercise intentions. After all, once one has changed clothes, that’s a hell of a lot of exercises done already. Plus, why old clothes? You’re surely not intending to – dare I say it – get all sweated up  ? If so, don’t forget your swanky water bottle and sporty hand towel if you wish to look like a proper athlete. (Did I write that :? ?)
2. Points 2-6 – Excellent exercises. Stick with ‘em.
3. Point 7. Ah, the tricky bit. But haven’t you fast forwarded a little to the halo of righteousness? What about the three ‘p’s - puffing, panting and profanities? Not to mention turning over so that you can cook the other side?
4. Point 8. I love an optimist. Go for that cuppa – if you still can.
5. Point 9. Ah bless her. I think she means it
I wish you all the luck in the world. As a precautionary measure, and as May has just pointed out, you might find it best to try it all out when Mr DD is within earshot. Definitely not within ‘eyeshot’ though as you, and the guys at the local, will never hear the end of itIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I've hit the first snag: I can't open the box which houses the bands. It's stiff cardboard with one of those 'tongue' bits that you have to pull open before the contents can be revealed. Ye gods.
Sticky, the five minutes will include the three Ps (that's a given) and probably doing both sides - I don't intend overdoing things on this front, a small number of repetitions to kick off will be sufficient to 'kick off' the aches and pains.
Thanks for the right word, mike26. Our stairs are step and narrow - we have a handrail that runs the full length of the left hand wall, half-way up the right hand the spindles begin and at the top there's a lovely, solid lump of wood complete with newel post: it's around that solid bit I intend to loop the band to help me with arm exercises (sit-ups may be out of the question to begin but who knows?) I'm glad I gave you a giggle - I'm thankful you won't be able to see me - you'd never stop laughing then!
Plans are easy to make, LV, but not so easy to execute - I may wait until Mr DD is within earshot, May, but the comedic quality to my activities may also prove to be too much for him.
It may be worth clearing the house of Christmas biccies and chocolates first, Joan, so that I can only have a post-puff cuppa!Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
You have made me smile DD! It does sound like a plan to me. We have to start small. From little acorns and all that! My hands are fine but I can never open those sort of boxes neatly, no idea how you are supposed to manage! Have fun, take it steady.0

Mike, you're a cheeky boy. Banish all thoughts of the Green Goddess (though I may be that colour when I've finished) and as for lycra - they don't make it stretchy enough to get round me. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

None to-date. I spent a rubbish night, the morning is off to a slow start, my body is refusing to co-operate on any level about anything and I'm psyching myself to clamber into the shower. Wish me luck. DirtyDaisy.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hello DD. Your exercise plan has given me a real laugh. Can just imagine all the effort that will have to be put in to doing it. You deserve a medal
Think you need to take things a bit easy after all you've been through recently. Don't try and do too much. Let us know how you are getting on. Beryl.

I've just had the afternoon from hell. I decided to dismantle the Christmas tree ( it is 12th night after all) and my plan was to remove the tinsel, the Santas and some other bits and pieces but to leave the lights until tomorrow. Tinsel etc went fine but half-way through the Santas the tree lurched forward and nearly hit the ground. I caught it and then had to finish the job one-handed - one hand holding the tree, the other trying to remove the decs. Then I had to do the lights too. I did yell for 'im indoors to come and help but he's busy being in the Mafia (i.e. watching the Sopranos). I think I've had enough exercise for today because we went into town this morning and I walked for about 90 minutes with the Clatterator. Stuff hurts. Borrox. Maybe tomorrow I'll tackle my keep-fit plan, maybe I won't. I suspect the latter because I fear that today's exploits have been too much. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. You are a norty DD,but I understand I took our tree down when only I was the only one in,I had to let oh put it in the loft,I still got told off,I don't think he understands how useless you can sometimes feel with this blxxdy disease .Take care DD. Mig0
-
Oh DD, that was such a good plan too. But don't give up. It'll keep till another day when you don't feel so bad. 90 minutes of walking is quite a bit of exercise for now. I do a lot of thinking about doing exercise. I'm sure it all helps.Christine0

My exercise programme has been delayed. Today will be spent restoring the Santas to their storage boxes, tidying up the tree and putting away all the extra little bits and pieces that appear over the festive season. Stuff hurts already so I shall take my time about it.
Applerose? I'm spending a lot of time thinking about cake which is unusual because I don't usually eat cake. I am a Desperate-for-cake-Daisy.Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
There is exercise and there are exercises. It seems to me you got more than enough of the former yesterday and the decision to postpone the latter is a good one. Start at a time when you know you can carry on.
( :!: 'Carry On Exercising' ? - Oh let's make itWe could have an all-non-star AC cast list. The casting couch could be re-cast as a bed for exhausted participants.)
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hello DD
you take things steady we care about you.
joan xxtake care
joan xx0 -
Thank you Joan, those are very kind words. I have been a sensible girl (well, nearly, I've done too many stairs today) and the majority of the stuff is packed away into the storage boxes. Now he has to take 'em back upstairs - we can no longer access our loft so it all hangs around the spare bedrooms - much to his annoyance.
Now then young Sticky, that's a thought with which to wrestle - Carry on Exercising as done by the members of this forum. Thoughts are springing forth - if any come to fruition you'll find a thread on CC. (Unless you get there first.) DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
I'm like you DD forever wanting to do good and keep as fit as I possibly can!! I have good intentions even get fitness aids i.e pilates tension bands (similar to yours maybe!) and Arther seems to appear to smight me down and put a stop to all good intentions I have! Maybe it was never ment to happen for some of us!!
Not even going to attempt anything slightly crazy this year, may go for something simple so there is no chance of injury or flare up's starting!! Good luck with your keep fit plans! Don't start till you feel ready DD!!
