I've had to dig out the Beige Beauties. The op side of things is fine but the arthritis side isn't. Dammit. DD

Dammit indeed...maybe see it as a bit of a tan look for this grey weather?! Hope you don't need them for long.

That is very disappointing DD. I do know how you feel, as I've had to start wearing my paddle splints again, in spite of my wrist fusion.
Unfortunately surgery only helps the part it's performed on, not all the other dodgy bits we have.
I hope things improve for you soon.
    Thinking of you,

Is it the weather ? I too have been wearing my stylish wrist splints last 2 days . I don't look terribly " classy " in them as they don't match my purple top that I have on today ! I need to get them in a variety of colours ; why can't I ? Jillyb

I've hit a snag with the BBs. They are of the 'working' variety which means they have a metal bar running down the centre, the bar is angled where your wrist meets your palm which is just where MOS cut me. :( Somewhere I have a pair of wrap-around pink and white wrist supports so I shall dig those out because I feel they may be more beneficial (as well as making me look like an air-head). LV, the BBs do not hint at a tan, they hint at decrepitude and I'm with jillyB1 on this, why can't these surgical things come in a more attractive range of colours? A plain navy blue would be an advance - with purple for those of a certain age. (I'm hinting about that well-known poem, When I am old I shall wear purple . . . . . )

Yup, valval, I 'fess up - I've been doing too much: too much driving, too much slouching round Sainsbriz, too much household nonsense and thus have set meself back Je suis une twerp. Borrox. DD

Can't you take the metal bit out for a while? I managed to find a "sports" wrist support in neoprene which I use when the bb gets too uncomfortable - it may not support you well enough, but might be worth a try. It is reversible (can be used on either hand, since there's no metal bit) and is red on one side and royal blue on the other.

Hello, it's nice to meet you, welcome to the forum! I did try that but it didn't support as well as with it in. I've dug out the wrap-arounds and they are working better, it's my wrists which are being contrary today and the the wraps are beneficial. Which arthritis ails thee, chookgate, or have I missed a post somewhere? If so, I apologise. DD

Oh DD. Sit down and have a drink. I'm seething at the moment because I can't go for a swim....bugs in the water and I musn't get any bugs.So I've decided I'll calm myself down with a small glass which might turn into half a bottle if I sit here any longer.

When I first started with arthritis and the associated splints and what not I thought there was space for a company producing splints in nice colours with patterns or even a few sequins for if you need to wear them when going out. I then decided that maybe it was only me that wanted such things and I was being vain...clearly not. I know the beige doesn't hint at tan really but it is supposed to, I've asked OTs, phyios etc and they all tell me that is the aim...never had one manage to explain what the implications are if you are black!

Hello back! I very rudely haven't introduced myself anywhere, so you haven't missed anything. I have OA - apparently in my back, but thankfully it hasn't been troubling me for years (since I visited a chiropracter), and most definitely in my knees - though I've now got two new knees (TKR's one 5 months and one 6 weeks old), that I had to pay for because I'm too young (52) for the NHS to care I was almost immobile. The x-rays of my old knees were very interesting - so many bone growths in all directions that looked like cauliflower florets! The surgeon said the bones looked very angry (!) and looked burnt!
My wrist flairs up every now and then, but I'm told it's not arthritic (RA or OA), so I don't know what's causing it - I suspect that as my forearm and sometimes upper arm also hurt it's tennis/golfers elbow - I know from experience if I wear a wrist support for a week or so and ice it a couple of times a day it'll go away, so I try not to let it trouble me.

Hello again, chookgate. I am 53 and need two new knees (because I'm sure I could hang coathangers from the extra bits and would like a ohoto to prove that when they're done) but I am, alas, too young  and not disabled to a sufficient level. I am sure that if I went privately to see the bloke I saw on the NHS he wouldn't think twice.

I know that 'golfer and/or tennis elbow' exist as recognised 'condiitions' but as they can occur with those who partake in neither sport I wonder if they are also OA related? I must admit I'm pleased I haven't missed an intro somewhere - it's been a pain-fogged day for yours truly but I hope you will find some help and support through the forum, we're a good bunch (albeit creaky). DD

My experience was that if you go private, you get a date within a month for the surgery! It is expensive though, I was lucky (in a way), my husband (only child) had an inheritance (not so lucky for the relative) that paid for it. I'd definitely recommend the expense if you can afford it though - you're not queue jumping, you're saving the NHS money for having to supply you with drugs, mobility aids etc etc., and so what if the implants wear out in 10-15 years - you'll be old enough for the NHS to replace them! :D
