Hi

I woke up this morning and when was having my breakfast noticed my TKR which is now 10 weeks old had a big red patch right up at the top of it. This was about the size of 2 £2 coins and when pressed against it it went white under pressure then came back to red..
I do suffer from iodiopathic urticaria and angioedema and I know what it looks like, know what cures it (prednisolone) and it can take up to a week for it to disappear...So I rang up our local lines which is cumbria health on call and they told me to go to hopsital at 2.15...Got seen about 4.15 and it was a nurse practitioner who said "im not going to give you prednisolone thats a bit drastic, im also not sure its not an infection. Im going to give you antibiotics to take if it gets worse but dont take them if it doesnt"....I kept telling her I doubted it was infection as its at side of wound not on where the staples where...I said again and again I was prone to this and I knew what worked for it...
Bang head against brick wall!!! She gives me a drug which ended in rythrimicin which I knew was similar to the horrrible one they dish out and hardly anyone can take as it causes loads of side effects...I went to Boots to double check and was right, so it got binned, im no nearer to getting this under control, now have to wait till monday...
What a waste of time...Why dont they listen when you know your symptoms, so annoying??

Just when things looked as if they were getting on fine, unfortunatley with the nhs everyone is so pushed for time, in hindsight you maybe should have pushed to see a doc but hopefully things will be ok until Monday till you see your own doc, I suggest though if things get out of hand before then phone back and insist you go and see a doc as you say you know your own body and conditions ...........tc.............Marie x
Smile a while and while you smile
smile another smile and soon there
will be miles and miles of smiles
just because you smiled I wish your
    day is full of Smiles

It is annoying when people dont listen to you regarding your own symptoms...I mean imagine telling an asthmatic that they are not having an asthmatic fit or likewise?
I do know my uriticaria by now, its so distinctive and Im pretty sure if my wound was infected it would be as hot as hell, itchy and hurting - its not...It has thankfully died down a bit overnight so it must have been a smaller allergic reaction.....
