Hi everyone, Happy New Year to you all and hope you are well as can be.

As the title says I have had roughly 8hrs sleep the past 3 days because of my damn feet and now my hip hurts no matter what position I try and sleep in at night so lose, lose situation. My toes are getting worse at night now(not too bad in day but I think thats because I,m occupied) and the pain is increasing. I have limited bend in the toes on my left foot now, only 2 toes actually do bend but not to the normal level and the other 3 just stay straight, this actually makes me laugh because I can't physically bend them but when they are moving involuntary they go in all directions and at all speeds :o . I saw the gp on 31st december, not my usual but a trainee doc who is with the practice for 4 months, a very nice young man who actually made me feel like he was listening and not rushing me out of the door. I only went to him to get my sick note and then I was going to make an appointment to see my usual gp but we ended up really going into detail about how I was feeling, how things were effecting me, was I happy with the meds etc. He then looked through the reports from different consultants and my normal gp and I mentioned that it was over 3 months since I was supposed to have been refferred to the neurologist. He said he was going to chase the podiatry report as that had not been received yet (normal gp supposed to have done this) and get the wheels in motion with the neuro refferral(normal gp should have done this also) and I am to ring him wednesday to see how far he's got with this and to tell him off if he's got nothing to report  so maybe I'll get somewhere!!! Just feel fobbed off and fed up at the mo, oh, and I'm still waiting for my appointment letter for the steroid injection.

Anyway I've rattled on enough, maybe try and get a nap but my bloomin hip has other ideas, just took my meds so fingers crossed.

Take care all Dee x

It sounds as though that was a very good appointment: trainee docs are often more helpful because they haven't had the time to get too cycnical. I hope he will have some better news for you on Wednesday and that somebody, somewhere, will begin to investigate just what is going on with your toes. As for the lack of sleep - we're all familiar with that scenario, it does happen every now and again and I hope that you will soon be able to get more shut-eye. Do you take your pain relief before bed? Do you have something stronger you can take to get you off to a good start? DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Hi DD and thanks for replying.
Yes I take my meds before bed but I have been told by my rheumy to increase my ami's up to 70mg (slowly obviously) but until the docs get the rheumy report, I went on the14th Dec, they will not let me do it so waiting again for one department to talk to the other. I take 20mg ami's and 60mg codeine with 2 paracetamol around 6pm and then I take 60mg codeine and paracetamol before bed. I did have tramadol for night but the nightmares I had with them were awful and very graphic so I came off them.

Thanks again DD and your exercise regime post really made me laugh so thanks aswell for cheering me up a little. Dee x

    Hi deedee
Gosh I do feel for you not sleeping, how nice of the young doctor to take his time...it make such a difference when you have a good appointment.
I do hope you get the neurologist appointment very soon...Like you I seem to be forever chasing them up.
Please let us know how you get on, I hope the higher dose of ami's work for you.
    You take care xx
    Love

Hi Deedee. Sorry you're not sleeping. I know how it feels too. My feet are always painful and my hips play up when I sit or lie down. I manage about 1 good night a week. The new gp sounds good. I usually find they are more helpful when they are starting out. I hope he gets things moving for you and you manage some sleep tonight.

    Hi Dee

Really sorry to hear about your lack of sleep. When you do have a good night, you'll feel great the next day! I always go to bed with that thought. Also, me being in positive mood, the new GP you saw sounds excellent. Sounds like he's getting things moving for you, so hope to hear more about that.

By the way, I bought a little book recently called Quiet the Mind by Matthew Johnstone which is an illustrated guide on how to meditate. I'm finding some of the ideas are helping me in the wakeful night hours; it might be worth looking at. I know it doesn't make pain go away, but it's a distraction and also helps to clear the mind of the rubbish that can be going on.

    All the best, Shula
