Siatica - Pain in neck?

Hi Everyone,

Happy new year to you all.

I haven't been on for a few weeks, mainly due to the flu bug I picked up before Christmas (so much for the flu jag!), but something strange happened on New Years Eve.

I got very bad siatica in my right hib/bum! and was basically unable to move for 3 days. Even turning over in bed was difficult.

At the same time I got the same pain in my neck (lefthand side) and this hasn't gone away, could this be linked with the siatica?

I have a doctor appointment on Wednesday, but wanted to check if anyone has had this before?

PS - I also suffer from RA.

Hello Debra. The scaitic nerve runs down the outside of the leg (well, I think it does!) and its pain can be excruciating. You mention you were having difficulty turning over in bed etc and it could be this that has done for your neck; in trying not to hurt one part of us we hurt another because everything gets thrown out of alignment. I hope your GP can help on Wednesday and that the 'flu has cleared up. I wish you well. DD

It could well be that, if you've been turning over awkwardly in bed, you've knocked something temporarily out of kilter. I've not heard of sciatica affecting shoulders. Mind you, RA can. I hope not, in your case.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    HI

I am going thru a similar situation at the moment, i have seronegative arthur - and have spent a week in pure agony from sciatic pain in my lower back and right hip - struggling to walk, sit, turn over in bed etc!- saw gp!! on diflofenic anyway then 30/500 co-codamols, - then some tablets to kill the nerves to enable nightime sleep.

i too have a pain in between my shoulders - but that comes and goes anyway when i have done too much!

Part of my leg has been left numb - GP is referring me to physio x

Hope your pain eases soon x

I used to go to the osteopath for sciatica and it helped a lot. Stopped going after he tried to manipulate my shoulder when I had inflammation in the joint! There are some very good stretches that help - your gp might give you some if you ask - mine downloads stuff like that from the web. It's extremely painful and, as DD says, throws everything out. Hope you get it sorted out soon.
