A bit of a moan

Had to pop out yesterday despite feeling rough. When I got home I was so exhausted I had to sleep, a common occurrence for the past couple of weeks. I woke up to find that my painful feet were far too painful to stand on. A nights 'rest' (hot joints, intense pain = restless tossing and turning) has made no improvement and I have to go food shopping this morning, joy!!

I hate flares, we go away soon so was hoping to be well, still time I tell myself. It has been building for a few weeks, fever, fatigue, hot, swollen & painful joints. Trouble is I am dieting and have lost 10lb so far since November, hard work but paying off, so I don't want steroids. Being a bit stubborn but may have to give in.

Sorry to moan, but if I bash someone in the supermarket for going anywhere near my toes then I need a defense in advance!!!

Now then, repeat after me ‘I do not have to apologise for a long overdue and much needed moan’. If necessary write it out 100 times (unless your hands are bad)

It might, with luck, simply be that you’ve been overdoing things and an easy day (NO SHOPPING. Let them raid the freezer or treat them to a takeaway) followed by a good night’s sleep will get you back on a more even keel. The build-up to holidays is always a bit stressful and, with luck, it’s simply this rather than a full blown flare. I hope so as it’s rather more controllable.

You’ve done well to lose the 10lb, especially over Christmas. I presume this was sensible cutting out/down of non-essentials rather than crash diet, as the latter might cause problems, too.

Whatever the cause it sound like your body is not happy with things right now. I fully understand the not wanting steroids but I wonder if a jab might help. Not like going on the pills and, although the jabs don’t work for everyone, I find, in some situations, they do just give my body a boot in the right direction.

I suggest an easy day, an early night and, if things are no better tomorrow, ring the rheumatology helpline for advice.

Oh and make sure you take a trolley/toe defender in the supermarket. You can ‘accidentally’ whack anyone who comes near

Hmmmmm. Over the week-end him and me were discussing a return visit to Latitude ( a four-day festival) and to help me get the most from it (and damn the consequences) I am seriously considering returning to s short spell on the gorgeous pills. Why not? Life (such as it is) is for living (such as I can) and if they help me do the festival better then so be it.

You have been a very poorly girl in the recent past, it's no wonder that your body is rebelling / struggling / being difficult. Is it time to consider on-line shopping, or do you already do that and need to get out for a top-up? Catering for a family is not easy, I find it tough with just two of us.

Do what you can but in short bursts, rest as much as you can - you know your stuff about all of this and I hope that you have a lovely holiday with or without mother's little helpers. DD

Thank you both. I am back from shopping and was very calm :D Just got to get dinner started then am going to rest. Its hard to rest feet, I have raynauds so my normal hot/cold packs are a bit redundant, may try my trusty pain relief gel.

The shop was urgent and had to be done, the freezer and cupboards were bare and a take away is just too tempting!!!! I have been doing WW, my primary care trust are running a scheme where they pay for you to go for 16 weeks, I am about half way through and it is slowly working. It is hard work as I am not active really, but I have to do it. Just hoping the yummy french bread and cheese plus the odd apres ski cocktail doesn't ruin it. Is it still an apres ski cocktail if you haven't actually skied? I know the holiday will do me good, so am looking forward to a break.

I need to push myself to make a gp appt and get my bloods done as my raynauds or asthma is also playing havoc with my chest. The cold air is making it spasm and it is so painful and leaves me breathless for a min or so. Just a short time but as we are going to colder climate a bit concerned. Although despite the fact it is colder in the Alps, the climate is nicer.

Anyway I have rambled enough. How are you two doing?

    (((hugs))) to you both x

My dear suzygirl!! You where naughty going shopping! (smack bottom/hand!) But now it's done try and have a good rest and recharge the batteries!! Try and have a chill day tomorrow or Friday and let the others look after what needs doing and you rest up. I know how stressful sorting the pre-holiday stuff is but try and do your jobs from the settee or bed! It can be done as I did mine from the settee!
So as DD, sticky & I have said you look after number 1 you need to remember you where very poorly not 5 mins ago so you need some suzygirl time! So take it Mrs!!!

I reckon you are well within your rights to have a moan! I am not surprised you are feeling fed up. It is hard when we have to keep going and doing even when we know that we need to stop. I am sure your holiday will do you the world of good.

Take it easy, when you can. ((()))

Thank you everyone, you are all so kind. It is hard to give yourself permission to rest at times or to direct others to do necessary chores. I am trying to rest!!

Joints are slightly better today, had a bit of a lie in this morning, think the sleep did me good. I am playing nurse now though, my eldest son has caught proper 'flu' and is really poorly.

Got everyone washing their hands regularly, and a bowl with tea tree oil in it in the living room. Just hoping I don't catch it or anyone else in the family. Time of year for bugs though.

It is, indeed, Suzygirl, but you could get lucky as I did last year. Booked for LA at the end of January, aware of all the bugs about, I disinfected everyone who came into the house. Then ended up in hospital for 3-4 days just before flying out  Two of the regular nurses were sneezing all over the place  I caught no bugs and made it to my son's :D Good luck!

Oh dear, the words 'pours' and 'rains' come into my head. I'm pleased about the hand washing and TToil but maybe it's also wise to invest in some anti-bact. wipes, yes? They are good for bannisters, 'phones, taps etc. DD

    Hi Suszy,
I hope you manage another rest latter and your poor feet ease soon. The going in and out from cold to hot wont have helped with your chest either so well done for managing the shop. Your doing everything you can to dodge the dreaded bug, fingers crossed your son keeps his lurgies to himself.
The Alps trip sounds lovely, anyway with a scarf and cosy hat you will look the part sipping the ski cocktail. :D

Hope your son recovers soon and doesn't pass it on to you. Rest up now and hope you really enjoy your holiday.
