    Dear Joan

Thank you very much for that information. I had not heard of that one, so I shall make a note of it. There do seem to be quite a few different types of bisphosphonates that can be prescribed for OP.

Seen the gp today regarding stopping the AA as I am suffering so much from two of the main side effects. We have decided that I take nothing for the OP atm and see him on 4 February, when hopefully my symptoms have abated. As I already have a fracture in the lower spine I have been strongly recommended to take some kind of med to help with this. Apparently there are other meds I can try that are not a bisphosphonate so that is reassuring.

I'm so glad you've seen the GP today and I hope a better answer can be found for you. As with all the meds we discuss on here sometimes it takes a while to find the right one or combination to suit and obviously you need something to help but, for the time being, that particular battle is over. Take care please, a fracture in that area is not good, no? I wish you well. DD

Thank you DD and Salamander. There were no appointments to see my gp on Friday for this week when I looked on line and also phoned the surgery to make sure. I know they put out a few new appointments every day though. Looking on line on Sunday afternoon at the surgery's website, two early appointments had been added for this morning so I was able to grab one of them.

I was talking to a registrar in the hospital and she was saying that in the future they were hoping to be able to work out what drugs would suit each person... to do with dna.. wouldn't it be great for your bloods to be taken/tested and they could give you drugs they knew would not give you nasty side effects. Lets hope this happens sooner rather than later...

Hope they get you onto something else soon.. with no or less nasty side effects..

I, too, hope you will get all this sorted sooner rather than later, Elna. We have enough rubbish without adding more into the mix.

Thank you Sticky and Lupin. :) Wouldn't it be great if it became possible to know what drugs individuals should avoid taking, by having a blood test, Lupin.:)

Elna I am so glad you have seen your GP, and hopefully when the side effects die down they will offer you some new med...and I am hoping this ones will suit you much better.
You have enough going on without all this, can I just ask how they diagnosed the OP..I have noticed on my lasted blood test bone something or other.
    You stay warm...
Some more gentle hugs (((())) xx

    Dear Barbara

As you know I had the spinal op (neck end) some time ago now. On seeing the consultant a good year or so later and talking about the symptoms I still had, although he had never guaranteed that I would get back all I had lost regarding lack of moblity etc he decided it would be a good idea if I had a DEXA scan. The result was I had a fracture (OP) in the lower spine so the report suggested that I be put on Alendronic. My gp wrote back to the rheumi who did the report as he did not wholly agree. The reply came back that yes he strongly recommended that I start Alendronic with a further dexa in 2 - 3 years time to check what the situation is then. The rest you know! I am having three weeks grace to sort out my nausea and bowel problems that were affecting my quality of life big time. I have felt a lot better today but it has taken 6 days since taking the last pill. I still do not feel perfectly well in that area so some more improvement will be welcomed.

Love and extra special hugs to you,
    Elna x
