Hi everyone I hope you are all not in to much pain for the start of the new year  I have spent Christmas/new year over in Spain with my hubby & daughter (my sister lives there) we had a fantastic time lots of rest, feeling the warmth on my back was lovely,So I decided the one day (two days before flying home) that i would have a nice slow walk with my family, to see this shop which sold everything because my family had been going on about how good it was, my family told me to have a taxi because they were worrying about me walking that distance  Well I thought better didn't I  so I took my time family kept asking if I was alright,YES I'M FINE just normal pain, following day body in agony,I couldn't walk bend sit or get into any position to make it feel better,my family were really annoyed with me saying you wont be told will you, it was only a short flight home 2:30 hours, but i couldn't wait to lie flat on my bed, so I am now pumping down strong meds & still in a lot of pain, I am trying to exercise a little but the pain is too bad even moving in any position :cry: WHAT A FOOL I AM Sue x

Hello Sue. I don't know that you have been a fool. You sound like someone who wanted to go on a walk with her family at Christmas. Many thousands of people do it me included. I dont want to stay at home or take a taxi i want to be with my family. Unlike a majority of those you and me have to pay the price of our family walks and that's a bummer!!!!

I expect your family were annoyed as it tough to see the oerson they love in so much pain. Please don't be to hard on yourself it's bad enough having this dreadful disease without beating yourself up.

There is only one yardstick for these things, queenfan - was it worth it? If so, repeat as necessary. If not, be guided by your family next time. I hope you're soon feeling better.

    Oh Poor you Sue :(

I hope with rest and pain relief things will ease back for you then you can decide if it was worth it can't you?

Sounds like the holiday was though overall?

Lovely way to spend Christmas with your family :D

Aw Sue, we all have made this error at some time or other. You felt good, relaxed and more than likely thought you could do it as you so wanted to as well. A natural reaction from the family, unfortunately, but understandable. I hope the pain will subside very soon from this adventure you took on and if you enjoyed yourself at the time, then think on that and the fact that you did manage it, but unfortunately your body did not like it.

    Love

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

It's so easy to be lulled into a false sense of security: I feel good, ergo I am. As Sticky says there is only one yardstick so focus on the good bits of your time away. The bill has come in for payment, it will be paid, but next time take a taxi at least one way because then eveyone is satisfied. DD

    Hi Sue
Dont beat yourself up, I do this often, and just cant get it into my head that I can't do what I used to especially the walking bit.
I hired a wheel chair last year when we went to spain, but I hated the thing.
I have my own now but still not friends with it.
I am glad you had a good holiday though nothing like the warm sun on your bones...
    Take care xx

    Sue

You did what most people would do...You fancied a walk and as you were walking at a slow pace you didnt think it would reap havoc on your body...I suppose you know your limits and if youre anything like me I learn my lessons the hard way, never take the easy route DOH!
Next time maybe listen to the family eh?
Hope it eases/settles soon for you....At least you enjoyed crimbo in Spain!

    Hi Sue,

I've lost count of the number of times I've done something I know I perhaps shouldn't have done. Walked Sadie (Black Labrador) too far, had minimal pain so went for a bike ride, want to lose weight so did exercise DVD, mum moved house and I helped her even though I was in pain...I keep thinking I'm invincible when the pain is not too bad! It's only the following days I remember that I'm not actually invincible, I'm human with sero-negative arthritis. But what makes me do it, perhaps not as much these days since realising I'm not indestructible, is that in only 35 and I should be able to do these things. I try to prove Arthur wrong...but he wins ever time. It's only took me 6 years to realise this though.

    Xx

I've done the same thing. I can walk to and from work but sometimes like to walk for the sake of it. My rheumie has told me to exercise if I feel up to it so I do. Problem is, I never know if and when I'll be in pain or feel worn out afterwards. So Sue, I don't think you are a fool at all. You wanted to enjoy a walk with your family. Do you feel it was worth it? If not, maybe don't walk so far next time. Maybe as has been suggested, a taxi one way or a wheelchair. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Sue, we all do it, feel good and decide to make the most of it and go and over do it even when our bodies are saying stop to much we ignore it and pay for the consequences! So don't feel bad it's just another thing we need to learn to do, listen to our bodies!!
