I brought a tens machine last year when I first had trouble with my knees and it proved a great help on my train journey to work. Now retired I have stopped using it. Am going into hosp on 12th Feb for a TKR on my right knee. I am getting a lot of pain while in bed and don't get much sleep, does anyone know if you can use a tens machine in bed.
Many thanks.
Barry.

Do you mean overnight, ie leave it running for the whole night? Mine has a timer and automatically stops after 15 mins. I'm not sure you should use it for long periods but there is no reason not to use it in bed as such. I use mine on my back while lying down and so do use it in bed.

I was given a TENs to use in hospital (whilst in bed) but it was only for a limited time, about ten minutes per session. I can't see why you shouldn't use it in short bursts. I hope it helps to bring some relief. DD

Life is a funny old thing, enjoyed a great nights sleep last night with no problems at all.

Years ago the TENS machine was helpful, I'd use it for an hour at a time a few days in a row. I suspect that there are different power outputs on the various machines, a NHS one may well be more powerful than one brought in the high street?

For knowledge of adverse affects, if any, ask at your gp/physio centre?
