Struggling today :(

Hi
I am feeling very sorry for myself today!!! I have had a few days of increasing pain, deep, raw, grinding horrible pain. Pain that keeps me awake, and I am not a nice person to know when lacking sleep!!
Today I knew straight away things were bad. I am dragging my leg around like a corpse, and it feels like it is literally hanging off. The pain is relentless, no position helps. I saw my GP who said the next one would be morphine again, and I am trying to keep working as I feel I am being gently nudged out due to my problems. Also I get my MRI results next week so hopefully find out what is happening now.
So we decided to swap Tramadol for dihydrocodeine (with paracetamol, and Naproxen) If this doesn`t work, go back to the Tramadol which helps for an hour or so. (well dulls it)
I have been a day off today, but meant to be working tomorrow and if its like today, not sure how I will cope. So if anyone can send the `sandman` round tonight please,I could do with a bit of sleep!!
Ok moan over.
NB

You poor thing, I am so sorry. I vaguely ( ) remember what your job entails, is there any way at all you could be re-assigned somehow to lighter duties until you are well again? Things are still not right with you, ideally they would sign you off for at least six months so you could get sorted but that won't happen, will it? Oh to live in an employment Utopia.
I have no great ideas, I can't help with the sleep thing (what is sleep?) but I can send you these (()) and I am thinking of you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi NB bugger your in a bad way right now, but if its any help I have OA of both kneecaps and neck I also suffer from chronic neuroapthic pain syndrome and I also have a nasty virus so your not alone out there in pain land trust me!, all I can say is try and keep warm as best you can and rest up, and as for being short temepred etc I find Tramadol makes me one mean old fart, I know it's doing it but I can't stop meself, OK it helps with the pain but I think I'm lucky I've still got me front teeth after some of the rants I've had at people while on it!0

Thanks DD
I am a community nurse. I am on restricted duties and have reduced my hours using annual leave. My manager is seeing me regularly to assess how I am coping, but I am feeling a tad pressured as she has asked if I think I will ever be fit to do full duties?!! I saw Occy Health, as asked by manager, who say I am not fit for full duties at present, but ok to work if my GP & I agree. I told her I am hoping my MRI will show something that can be treated and then I will be ok to work my full role, but to be honest I don`t know what the future holds. (who does??!!)
Ok I`m off to find my crystal ball............

I do hope you can sleep tonight, NB. Maybe the DF118s will help if you take them at bedtime. I don't know whereabouts you are but please don't risk going in to work tomorrow if it's icy. It's hard enough on two good legs in that situation.
I don't think any of us are nice to know when we lack sleep. (Some of us aren't that great when we don't either  ) However, you can only ask so much of your body and, if it's not playing ball, maybe you should give it a break.
Try a warm bath, a drop of something nice and warming, the meds and some soothing music. I hope it works. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Mellman
Oooo can I blame my grumpiness on the meds then??!! Brill
Mr NB thinks its funny that the dihydrocodiene can make me think unclearly. He thinks I`ve been on them for years then!
Poor you, I hope at least the virus clears up soon, you sound like you have enough on your plate.
Pain doesn`t bring the best out in people, thats for sure.
I am snuggled in my pjs in front of the fire so hope the warmth helps.
Take care (especially of the teeth!!)

Hi Sticky
I took some at teatime so am planning to take the next ones at bedtime, as you suggested. I`m in Lancs, so no snow here but was frosty this morning. Hopefully it will be ok in the morning though, hate snow and ice!
I don`t have a bath here anymore, we had it taken out when my hips got bad as I couldn`t manage getting in or out! I have a lovely big walk in shower now. I have just used some Christmas pressies- a face mask and body butter so am feeling all pampered now.
Thanks for your message x

Oh NB its rotten when you cant get on top of the pain, same here at the min...so I really do feel for you.
And more so when you have to work,at least I am retired...hopefully things will ease for you on the new meds....here's some gentle hugs (((())) xxLove

Hi Barbara
Thanks x I hope you start to feel a bit of relief soon too. Have you had your meds looked at ? Do you think you need something changing maybe?
I do hate moaning, but at least people here understand what its like.
I hope the new pills make a difference too, and that i get some answers next week at the hospital.
Take care x

Really feel for you NB and I too am in the same boat with work issues as I am now on sick leave GP's orders and may have to be referred to a different hospital as rheumi is off sick so he now has a massive backlog(not that that helps me)...Really hope you get sleep and soon as it certainly does tell on you.
Take care and keep warm, I too am snuggled next to the fire with my pj's on

HI NB
It sounds like your'e having quite a time of it just now...It must be horrible, the kind of pain you're describing and not getting hardly any relief from it either, lack of sleep will be making it just that bit worse too....
Reading further down it sounds as if your manager is putting a wee bit of pressure on you to do a bit more than you feel capable of doing so...Its hard when people do this isnt it, ie, making out they are empathetic but all the while they are just wanting you back to full strength for their own motives?
I hope something eases soon health and jobwise for you...

Hi NB, how are things today? I hope you were able to get some decent sleep last night and I was wrong about your job. I'm sorry, for some reason I thought you were involved in education, I dunno why but a reasonable guess would be pain plus lack of sleep (it gets us all from time to time).
Right, you're already on restricted duties and that's currently too much, this isn't good, is it? Are your skills transferable to another employment area? In an ideal world you could leave this job, focus on healing and getting better for six months to a year and then return to either the same job or a new one but we none of us live in an ideal world which is a blasted nuisance. Anyhoo, I hope you're as OK as you can be today. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Wendy
Thankyou for your reply, I hope you get sorted with your pain and appointments soon x
Hi Elaine
Thanks for your reply x Work have their own agendas, which I understand, but am not in a position to do all my duties yet and they will have to deal with that. It is hard for my colleagues as it is always busy, but I can only do what I can at the moment.
Hi DD
I didn`t really sleep well again. I wrestled with lots of pillows, trying to get comfy but didn`t really help. I have really struggled today, I took my crutches but it didn`t make a difference. Bending in the middle to sit is awful. I am worried that they will make me go and work somewhere else. I love my job and don`t want to get sidelined. I am trying not to think about it until I have got my results next week.
Ok feet up on sofa time now. I am knackered!

Hi NB, I'm sorry you''re having such a bad time. I hope things improve for you soon.

Hi NB, sorry to hear you are in so much pain and I hope the painkillers are helping somewhat. Hopefully your MRI will show what is going on.
take care xx0 -
Aww NB
Sending you loads of (((()))) I'm sorry you are suffering so much at the minute.
I'm not working {well just a couple of little jobs...self employed} so I'm lucky in that respect.
I cant really had to things the others have said

Hi Salamander, and Numpty
Thank you for your replies and support. I took more painkillers last night (within prescribed limits) and I got a bit of sleepStill awake from 3 though  I am day off today, so am planning to do nothing!
Hi Hileena
I see you have been suffering too . I hope that you find some relief soon xx I like to be at work, as i have a really interesting job and lovely colleagues. But it is really hard to cope when i am in so much pain, and I am only office based at present. There is no way I could cope with full duties physically, and this is upsetting. I am too young to think about retiring, and don`t want to think about alternatives. Roll on next Thursday.

Hi NB
Just checking to see how you are, daft question really but I do hope you are getting some relief.
I take cocodamols and slow release pain patches...fentalis...think that the right spelling....I am still waiting for them to work...but everyone is so different, what works for one doesn't work for another
You take care xLove

Hi Sticky
I will try but I did a bit of ironing before  sorry!! Laid on sofa again with pain shooting down leg so no more housework for me!
Hi Barbara
I am much the same today. Feel like hacking my right leg off, or maybe it will fall off of its own accord. Pain is very wearing, isn`t it? I hope the patches start to help you soon xx Not tried those. Just had a text reminder from Wrightington for next Thursday. It can`t come fast enough!!
Take care xx

Hope you feel brighter soon , this weather doesnt help spirits either does it.
Take Care x Yvonne0 -
Sending you more ((((()))) NB
Sorry that you are still as bad.
Love
Hileena0 -
Hi Yvonne and Hileena
No, I am not liking the cold weather and am dreading the snow!
I have had a bad few hours with pain and it made me feel physically sick. I have left a message at the surgery for the GP to ring me tonight to ask about my meds again. I am not sure what to do for the best now?? Either perservere with the DF118`s or go back to Tramadol?? Or try a big hammer over the head!!
Take care, and I hope you have a good night xx
NB0 -
Hi NB. How are you today? Did you decide on the DF118s, the Trammies or the lump hammer. I hope not the latterIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
