Hi
Well I am back from Wrightington. My MRI showed Bulging discs in lumber spine and OA, bursitis in hip and inflammation in tendons. They also thought there was deterioration of hip so asked for Xray. The Xray shows a narrowing of space in hip, & arthritis worse. He advised a THR.
He said I can go away and think, before going on list. Or try another injection. This didn`t help at all in October, and things are far worse since then. So no thanks. Or just go for it, and go on list.
So shellshocked as I am, I am on the list. I can always opt out if I decide against, but this way am not losing time by thinking before getting on waiting list.
I am shocked at how quickly my hip has deteriorated, as I was told 9 months ago, last Xray that arthritis not too bad.
I am sad for my kids as we won`t be able to go to Florida in July as we had booked. They have had a rubbish time of it thanks to my hips these past 5 yrs.
I also was told some worrying news about my other hip. but am too confused to discuss this yet
NB

    Hi Nearly

You poor thing!! You must be so shell-shocked :(

The kids will probably be happier for you to be well. Is there any way Florida could be brought forward??? Bet school will let them have time off in the circumstances.....???

Please take care of yourself - I hope things will feel clearer for you soon once you ahve thought it all through and slept on it too :?

    love and ((()))

    Hi
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
It has been a shock, and I have had a few tears. But feel a bit better now, for now!
Barbara, It would be sooo nice to have a buddy in hospital , but I am not wishing surgery on you too  But let me know how you get on xx
Toni, no I can`t bring the holiday forward as my daughter is doing her GCSE`s. It was supposed to be a treat for her after all her hard work, and would be cheaper as would not be in school hols. My son starts his GCSE work in Sept. Also I would struggle to walk w round the parks as I am.(we booked it before my hip started to get worse!)
We will sort it out I`m sure, either move the date or transfer the money to another holiday, if we can.
    Thanks again xx

NB, so sorry to hear you had unexpected news in this way. As you say, at least you are on the list and have time to reconsider should you wish to do so.
It's always disappointing when things don't work out as they should do, isn't it?
With regards to the holiday, is there any way you could have the surgery just after the holiday and organise a wheelchair/scooter to be available for you whilst you're there?
With regards to your other hip, when you're ready you know where we are.
    Take care of yourself,
    GraceB

I'm sorry this isn't great news, NB, and also that it came as such a shock. I hope the end product will make your life much better.

On a purely practical note, I wasn't allowed to fly long haul for 6 months after my knee revision. I think it's the potential blood clot factor.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi
    Thanks Grace, Joan and Sticky
I don`t think I would manage the theme parks before the op Grace, and I want to join in with everyone not watch from a wheel chair. So after wards would be better I think.
Sticky, i asked about flying long haul, as I seem to remember 6 months too, but the nurse in clinic said a month!! I don`t think she was right and I will ask again at the preop. Any way i will still be on crutches at a month post op!!

With regards to my other THR, the surgeon has now admoitted that my prosthesis IS one of the ones being monitored for problems, although as i am nearly 4 years post op and apart from the dislocation have not shown any signs of problems eg metal poisoning symptoms I should be ok. The main time from signs of problems is the first 5 years post op. However i have now been told that the type of hip I was advised to have (non cemented) due to being younger patient has shown in research not necessarily the best for lasting longer, or easier to revise. I am soooo confused! I have written to the National Joint Registry for more information on my existing hip prosthesis so I can find out more. So I will be getting a cemeted one this time, I think!! My head is still in a spin!!

NB you make sure you get that THR done before Florida...listen me ..not had any done yet...
But at least you will be more relaxed and in less pain...but just to say if you haven't been before they are fantastic with wheelchairs and crutches and such.
I dont think I will be far behind you for this first THR.... :o xx
    Love
    Barbara
