Ye gods. I've had intermittent trouble with this hip over the past year or so but it's always cleared up. This time it hasn't . I don't know what to do with myself, I cannot get it comfortable, the numbness has returned, I have groin pain and a lovely, searing hot pain deep inside the joint.

He too is glum, his appointment for his colonoscopy plopped ( :) ) through the door this morning (I could have chosen a better word but that one suits methinks!) and he has read through with increasing dismay about what he has to do and what is going to happen. The letter included sachets. For the first time ever we will be attending a hospital appointment on a Saturday afternoon. Ye gods. DD

Oh god DD sorry, don't know what to advise as I take it you have upped the meds as much as you can only can hope that things will settle down eventually, have a few beers this aft whilst watching all the tottie maybe enough distraction to keep your mind off things for a while

Oh poor Mr DD I have heard about these colonoscopys I don't think they are very nice poor wee soul, I'm afraid your word "plopped" is not so appropiate more like dynamite I have had the stuff before to clear an impacted bowel, tell him to stay very close to the loo, poor soul just as well he doesn't know what he is letting himself in for................Marie xx

Don't feel too sorry for him. Colonoscopies are not painful (there are no nerve endings in the colon) and the hardest bit for me was getting the requisite amount of liquid down me in the prescribed time limit. After that, just wear something quickly removed (an all-in-one jump suit is not recommended) and keep a clear path to the loo. It will soon be over and then he'll be ravenous.

You, on the other hand, are not so easily mended. I have no words of wisdom but I guess you qualify for a couple of these. (())

the worst bit by far is the dreadful liquid they want you to sup.
I could not drink it. So when i got there they gave me an enema.
Much better in my humble opinion.

As for your hip mi darlin. .
I know that awful, uncomfortable and horrid pain. .
Sending rather gentle Yorkshire Blokey hugs.

I find when my hip decides to flare up I put cushions surrounding both hips so they are supported and so half the cushions are under my hips to cushion them. And take my Oromorph!! But I hope you can find a way to feel comfortable and pain relief supported it is very evil when the hips decided to let themselves known!

Oh poor Mr DD! I've had several Colonoscopy's and remember getting the sachets! That stuff is like dynamite! It don't half clear you out!! I would ask for sedation it does help as you woun't remember the investigation.

    Hi DD
I am sorry to hear that your hip is still being a pain (literally!) I am sure you have plenty of dullers to try, but I can totally empathise with horrible hip pain. I am resorting to MST and Oromorph and keeping warm.
I have no experience of colonoscopies (personally) but have seen them being done at work. I don`t envy the sachets, poor fella! I hope he gets through it easily, and it through him!
    Take care

    Hi
Awww thats awful....both of you suffering at once.
Although as everyone says MR DD.....the worse thing he has
to endure is getting that vile stuff down.
Number 2.....is getting to the loo in time.
My poor mam was in her 80's when she had one and not at all mobile.
Didnt have a downstairs loo so lived in the bedroom most of the time.
Me.....Do you remember the fractured pelvis and SI joint??? it was during that that I had to drink that stuff. I had to bring my scooter inside and my loo {downstairs} is only down the hall
You will be suffering a lot more....I'm so sorry pet.
I've had one replaced and te other one is giving me h++l at the minute.
Painkillers/dullers and heat are the only thing I can suggest.
    Take care
    Love

I'm sorry you are in so much pain with you're hip at the mo. I know that pain so so well. Just dose yourself up to your eyeballs and try and rest up. I know it's not much but it's all I have for you.

And I've had that procedure done. As all have said, it's the liquid, so so hard. And the continual going afterwards. I was given a sedative automatically. And warn hubby afterwards, tickled me back on the ward. Boy, it was so so windy there, if you know what I mean.

I have to get used to it and I hope I can. I can't see the point in doping myself beyond reason because I still have to function, especially at the moment because I have to take care of him. He's been thoroughly weakened by this, the anti-bios are not helping on that front either. The bed needs changing daily and I am trying to tempt his poor appetite with all sorts of morsels which I have to shop for and then cook. No matter, this time last week life was looking very grim (they were considering moving him to ICU) but this week it's just tiring. As for the colonoscopy he won't go for sedation because there are not nerve endings in the colon so what's to hurt? I guess the idea of it is the worst!

Thank you all for your posts, they are deeply appreciated. I'm off to do my hottie and prepare myself for another long night. Things will be better tomorrow. DD

DD have you considered on-line shopping I know we all like to go round the shops but if only to tide you over the next few weeks till you are both feeling better. If I am haveing a bad turn then I shop at T---- online, it is soo easy and the delivery man will bring it all into your kitchen. Simples

I don't know anything about them but I hope it goes well for Mr DD. I answered your other thread. I know you have a lot to do but hope you manage to rest some yourself. Lululu is right. It would help you a lot to get your groceries delivered.

That's a good idea girls, oddly enough he and me discussed this yesterday. I'm in favour for it for the bigger, bulkier, heavy stuff such as tins, loo paper, kitchen roll, washing powder but not for meat, fruit and veg as I prefer to choose my own. He did our shopping for ten years, he would take his mum once a week and do ours at the same time (loathing every minute of it). Now that 'tie' has gone so it makes sense for me to resume my housewifely role - plus it will get me out and about on a regular basis which can only be a good thing to aid mobility, muscle strength and stamina. We'll muddle through, we have been trying to find a new routine for us since she died but life keeps getting in the way.

I had another rubbish night and everything is gently twanging this morning. Hey-ho, cocos are due, whooptee-doo! :) DD

It was the getting to the colon I was stressed about, and so they suggested sedation, Also with me having sezuires, it isn't a nice procedure and sometimes not knowing what happens makes it less stressful!!

I apologise, Bubba, I didn't mean that unkindly. Your situation is very different, he is revoltingly healthy and that skews everything. He was complaining this morning that he doesn't do ill, I responded that he won't be for very much longer, give it a few weeks and he'll be as good as new. Being a patient patient is something everyone struggles with, I guess. Right, he's gone out for his walk so I shall go and wash up and make another milky jelly - tangerine today! DD

I like to pick my own fresh meat and fish did once let the pickers do it ,nothing wrong with the product but it wasn't what I would have chosen.Another thing in online shopping is neither of us drive so it's a boon when bulky items are needed or indeed as you say tinned goods. Hope you give it a go.Mig

I've never actually done online groceries but I have had to almost do it ie source prices when applying for funds for a charity I was involved with. I found the whole business infinitely more time-consuming than just picking stuff up in the store.

Yet another night with very little restful sleep and an awful lot of unrestful dozing. I cannot get comfortable no matter what I do. This is, quite frankly, driving me round the bend. I thought I was used to pain - it appears not to be so. We're off at lunchtime to get his staples removed which is one step forward for him! :D DD

It's a pig, isn't it? I'm finding sitting very uncomfortable, standing too (that aggravates the knees and ankles) but lying on my left side isn't too bad (although it's tricky for cooking, cleaning etc!) I had breakfast in bed this morning, with him, lying there like some Roman lady at a banquet. Im typing this one-handed, sideways on. Not good I know. DD

DD, could your doctor not prescribe something to help you sleep. Or, are you already on something. I know when I am in lots of pain my doctor prescribed Nortryptiline, a newer version of Amy.

Sounds like hubby is recovering well. That is good. But not you. Sorry you are in so much pain. I know how that feels so sending you some gentle hugs.
