Sorry to moan, they will write that on my gravestone!!!

The pain in my elbow and shoulder has extended to hand and wrist. It is agony, I have a contracture (dupuytrens) already, which doesn't help. My arm won't straighten., lift or anything. It really, really hurts!"!

I have tried everything to help and nothing does. Finally in desperation I have called rheumy help line. ( Had fever and various other symptoms for over 5 weeks). Went to get bloods yesterday, hoping not a flare as already had injection into elbow and not sure how many allowed.

Don't often say this, but pretty miserable. Pain intolerable despite best efforts and not sure rheumy nurse can help really. Stupid disease, feel rotten generally as well, which doesn't help.

I know it get's too the best of us, but I do hate to give in. I won't bore anyone with the myriad of other symptoms occurring also, but it is enough.

I am also aware that due to lack of posting, no one on here, 'knows' me anymore. I am sorry, but have been really struggling. Hi to anyone I have missed, and to a anyone I already 'know'.

I 'know' you, Suzygirl. And I know you don't 'moan' lightly. I'm afraid I'm slightly the worse for wear having had a good night out with friends  but I send you some of these (((()))) and hope that things will ease up for you and that the helpline will come up with a good and helpful suggestion.

Thanks, the rheumy nurse called first thing this morning. They are going to give me an appt, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. In the mean time she said see the gp, but they may prescribe steroids and I am dieting.

I will try and get an appt tomorrow though. Maybe the contracture needs treating, I am wondering if it is causing the pain as unlikely as it sounds.

Sticky, hope you had a great night out.

Steroids have a role to play in helping us over various hurdles and it sounds as though this is one hurdle where they could be of real benefit. Any weight gain isn't instant (well, not in my experience) but it comes off quite rapidly when one stops the pred, which can be viewed as another bonus. You may not be on them for that long either, Suzy, so don't be afraid to have a short course, it could make a difference. DD

You can lose weight whilst on steroids. I have done it. Just had to be extra careful about snacking and filling up on fruit and veg. xx

Thanks everyone, I will try to get an appt with the gp tomorrow. Had to ask everyone all the time to do everything for me, they must be so fed up!!!!

I know it is silly to worry about weight gain, but I have worked so hard to lose weight. If steroids it has to be then so be it!!!

    Toni, I know you too!!!

Good decision, Suzygirl. Sometimes these things just have to be done. You've battled on enough with this now and, if will-power alone was going to fix it, it would be fixed by now.

You won't necessarily put on weight with the steroids. I have old photos of me with the awful moonface over a slim body. Nowadays my face is thinner and my body thicker - to match the brain cell

    Hi Suzygirl
Sorry to hear that you are having a bad time. (and I remember you!! )
I hope the appointment comes through soon, and that the steroids help to ease things in the meantime.
    Take care xx

Thanks Sticky, I had a peer at my elbow and it is extremely swollen, which may explain a few things  I can't be like this over the weekend. At this rate I may even be smiling at the steroids!!!!

Hi NB, nice to hear from you. Its a bit of a pig this arthritis malarkey hey
