Right, thats its I've made the decision to stop taking Sulpha, and have informed my doctor.

I have been on Sulpha since October last year and have stopped/restarted 3 times! This is now the last time.

I have been feeling very low and not sleeping and its all because of the sulpha, had really horrible side effects with it last year too.

Still on Meth, so will stay on that for now as that seems to work.

When you say you've informed your doc, do you mean rheumatologist? I think any big decisions like this should be made together. Please ring the rheumatology helpline and make sure they're on board.

I agree with Sticky, this is not a decision one can make without discussing it first with rheumatology. They must sanction this and I hope they have. DD

I have consulted both my doctor and RA Nurse and both have agreed to stop taking it.

Hi Debra, Have to admit I did the same thing with both Mtx. I made the decision to stop as I was getting so ill on it. My rheumy completely supportive of my decision on the basis that if I couldn't tolerate the side effects and there was no benefit to me, then it wasn't worth persevering with.

Although I agree decisions should be made with your consultant, telling them you can't go on with a drug is perfectly reasonable in my book (sorry to disagree Sticky and DD). I hope they can get you on something else that is more tolerable and helpful.

    take care.

    Hi there Debra

Well that was brave, hopefully as Salamander says, there is an alternative you can have if the MTX isn't enough on it's own.

    You take care of yourself

Me too! The side effects were intolerable, all very well trying to help the ra but when it then means you get a poor quality of life whats the point - like you ans salamander i just said i was stopping it for me there was no discussion i just couldnt live with the side effects. am hoping to start some biologics (rheumy suggests ots really the only option left) after this baby since the top dose of mtx injected still has me struggling, unless by some miracle the mtx starts to work again.

I hope they find a better option for you tis bad enough taking toxic drugs but when they dont work or take away anothrr part of our lives u do wonder where the balance is.x

Had a very productive chat with my RA nurse this morning.

She agreed to keep on the Meth just now, but to defo stay off the sulpha, its caused me to many problems.

I find that the meth does work, much better since I switched to injections. And I do get steriod injections too, which helps.

But really want to be stable for a while, as I've had a hellish time of it over the past few months.

luckily enough ive never had any side effects from sulpha.
i was started on 6 a day 28 years ago and it wasnt until about 3 years ago that ive cut down to 4 and now on two a day. was told at the time this will only be a short term course lol and 28 years later im still on them. im also on 15mg mtx and infliximab ant tnf every 6 weeks.

good luck and i think i will be joining you soon.
