Hello!

I'm Merry and I'm 34. I was born with CDH and now have OA in my left hip as a result. I'm looking for somewhere where I can be honest about feelings, worries etc without burdening friends and families - are the forums a good place for this?

I also feel a bit isolated at times and would love to get to others in a similar situation.

Hope to hear from people soon.
:D

Hello Merry. It's lovely to meet you and you've come to exactly the right place.

We don't always like to be burdening our families with every ache and pain and here is a safe place to share them with people who do understand. Sometimes it's just the little things that combine and build up into one big thing, isn't it? In fact, sometimes we manage to struggle on for so long with the big stuff, it's actually something minor that takes us unawares and floors us temporarily

I hope you'll find us very supportive and encouraging :)
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hello Merry (what a lovely name!) you are indeed in the right place to be listened too and to listen in return. We do understand what it's like, how difficult things can be with friends and family and, as you get to know the forum, you will see how regularly that topic crops up. I have an arthritic foot in both arthritis camps, I have an auto-immune one and that has led to OA in my ankles, knees and now my right hip. YUK. DD

    Welome Merry,

You have come to a fabulous place, I have only been around a few months and have had so much help and support which has been second to none....... we all live with chronic pain regardless of what Arthur we have, a lot of us have also got other conditions to contend with as well............ there are a lot of knowledgable and I must say very humerous people which sometimes puts a lighter slant on things and as they say laughter is the best medicine............. hope to see you around............tc...............Marie x

    Hi Merry
I too have CDH and my left hip went first to OA, and I had it replaced nearly 4 years ago. My right hip is on it`s way out now, and I am on the waiting list for another THR. But I am a bitolder than you at 44!
I have found this forum a God send when I am having a bad day, there is always someone with a comforting word and good advice.
Nice to have you on board x

    Hi all,

Thank you for the lovely welcome xxx

I've had a difficult and fairly stiff few months since my youngest daughter was born in August so I'm sure I'll be venting soon!

Nearlybionic, do you mind me asking what age you were when you had they THR on your left hip and what state your leg was in after the CDH hips? Xxx

Did anyone hear the radio 4 programme on disability and relationships called "My Lover, My Carer"?

Sorry nearlybionic, I've just re-read your post and you had your THR nearly four years ago - teaches me to read properly! But I would like to hear more about your CDH xxx

    Hi Toni,

It was very interesting - it was about relationships but from both sides. It also looked at it from the point of view of people who had been perfectly healthy and then had accidents / developed issues and those who'd been born with disabilities. I wanted hubby to listen, but he wouldn't. He's really supportive on day to day issues so I can't knock him really. Xxxx

    Hi Merry
I have had problems with my hips since my teens, but they started to get worse in my early 20`s. I had a lot of tests/x rays etc then but did not get a proper answer to my issues. In my late 30`s my left hip particularly became very painful, and I was struggling to walk or do anything at all. I had X rays which showed bilateral hip dysplasia and bone on bone OA in left hip. I was referred to a regional orthopaedic centre for my THR as I was told my hip was too complicated for my local hospital. I had my LTHR in Feb 2009.
I have had some problems since including a dislocation of the THR, and lumbar spine pain/sciatica. I am now having pain and poor mobility due to my right hip, which has deteriorated a lot over the past 9-12 months, and following Xrays/MRI`s have been listed for another THR.
I have had a limp for as long as I remember and low back pain, and hope one day to be without both!
Not sure if you wanted to know all that!!
